Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

You do realise Donnarumma biggest weakness is the ability to play with the ball at his feet ?

Stupid statement.
While i agree with that statement, the fact that donnarumma knows that means he probably never makes that pass, while i dont want to put a young player to the sword it was an absolutely ridiculous pass to play.

Yeah Donnarumma saves the first goal
Then doesn’t fuck about in a packed goalmouth with piss poor passing and decision making and goes for the obvious kick up field because the opposition are effective at the high press and have us penned in because he is the best keeper in the world .
Agree on the second as that is what should have happened...

Disagree on the first BUT the bigger issue is that its a change/type of goal we see all the time against us which suggests the problem lies further up the pitch. We give away high value chances - more or not that means the keeper shouldnt save them unless the forward fucks up

I don’t see how we can play like this with any keeper other than Ederson. We need to change our style and playing out from the back, otherwise we’ll have the same problems.
All 2nd half the keeper whacked it long to no one. It was pitiful and a million miles from a Pep team.

Really...?

What about stopping the shot before it becomes an issue for the keeper?

The point is we give away high percentage chances which means more or not regardless of who is in goals they go in....trafford is an excellent shot stopper...he got nowhere near it..

If we are relying on a keeper stopping those type of chances something much bigger is going drastically wrong.
Not denying we have other defensive issues to resolve, but Donnarumma is one of the best shot stoppers in the world for a reason. In terms of the RB position, I agree with you we still need to bring one in if possible.

To be fair what other choice did he have. The midfield was non existent, so you could pass to say Dias, who can then only pass to stones or go back to the keeper.

Spurs were pressing us, so in that instance we have to go long. The problem being only Haaland wins any long balls.

Whoever plays as keeper, if it’s not Ederson we will have the same issue. No one can pass the ball out like Ederson.

I recall conceding that goal quite a few times with Rico at RB.
Absolutely mad to me that we are messing around with GK and WF a week before the deadline when the most urgent position before the window was even open (maybe along with a midfielder) has been completely ignored. I don't get it. Are our scouts absolutely shit? We've known for years that we'd soon need to replace the greatest RB in PL history

is the general feeling that Donnnarumma is bad at passing but Trafford is good?
I think Trafford in general is decent with his feet. We saw that for the third goal against wolves and in the second half yesterday where he chipped a great ball to Reijnders in the middle.

I don’t think Donnaruma is good with the ball at all and for me is a more traditional keeper ie good at shot stopping.

We need to stop comparing to Ederson though and try and not be as obsessed with trying to play out of the back. It can’t be done as well with any other keeper

And the high press . We have struggled massively against the high press the last 18 months or so maybe longer. Also goal keeping issues whoever is net for City be it Ederson Ortega and Trafford. Plus the ridiculous ongoing right back issues but that’s for another thread .

Whilst I'm not Ortega's biggest fan it didn't seem to make any difference playing wise with him in goal. I'm really hoping Eddie stays another season tbh.

Agree with most of this .
Add decision making also . Ederson Ortega and now Trafford all fall short here .
If we don’t sign Donnarumma then we have to stick with Ederson this season for me .

Yes they are

We were told repeatedly when we signed Nunes and Phillips esp that Pe and the team must know their qualities even though both signings were questioned significantly on here before hand

Lots of people also questioned the signing of Grealish at the time....see how that panned out - Everton is his level

Rico Lewis as aright back inverting into midfield has been nothing short of disasterous and its there for everyone to see and now they have just given him a new transfer.....

All decsions made by the management/coaching/leadreshop team

They dont get everything right and this potential transfer is another example where it could go very wrong - there is a reason why lots of people are questioning it - as they were with all those decisions above...this is not about revisionism -people were questioning them beforehand and ever since
TBH, I don't see "lots" of people, but do see many repeating themselves

Exactly, both negated responsibility when Spur tactic was a high press all game, they could see 2 players bearing down on the 10 yard area and should have got rid rather than both pass it back to him in succession.

Trafford should have just hoofed it admittedly, but he was badly let down and tbf recovered to get down and fingers to the first atempt, where again Dias backed off the oncoming paulhino rather than go for the loose ball.

I will credit the lad he made some saves after where many a keeper would have crumbled, He need defenders that protect him especially while he settles, those writing him off after one eiffy game are dissapointing.

If we buy done a runner then so be it, but the reason. shouldn't be because of yesterday
Pretty sure it wont be
