Wow, almost 30% shithouses in here.
BHA play a high press, the same tactics that Spurs played. Spurs went man for man all over the pitch with Van der Ven following Haaland deep into our own half. Carragher and Henry did a very good analysis of this. They pointed out that if Ederson had played, Spurs would not have attempted this as Ederson gives City an extra man at the back enhancing our ability to play through the press. Ederson can also hit our forwards with long balls going over the high press and leaving our forwards 1 on 1.

We could not deal with the high press without Ederson, so I hope he plays. I voted for BHA win because on the basis that Trafford will play. I am not expecting the Ederson transfer to be resolved until deadline day.

makes me sick to think we drop points here and then 2 weeks break while Arse or dippers go to 9 points with 5 or 6 points lead on us already while they have either rags away, dippers home or Newcastle away, Arsenal away out of the way already.

just win this somehow and get a draw between Arse and dippers and its pretty close, and the two weeks break will be easier to manage.:)

I dont see any huge rush getting Cherki into the team, he is young and has a lot to learn about the premier league. I would have him on the bench Sunday and use him as a sub for now.
I would go with a solid Rodri Silva middle two.

I think it could work if we packed the midfield and defence out and just put Phil and Cherki behind Earl with license to roam. Wing backs for width, 3 centre half's 2 defensive minded central midfielders.

GK

Khusanov
Stones
Gvardiol

Nunes
Gonzalez
Rodri
Ait-nouri

Foden
Cherki

Haaland

Not sure Pep would go with this but I think it is something worth experimenting with. However, I assume Ait-nouri will not be available for selection which would necessitate a change, perhaps O'Reilly could be drafted in. The GK position is probably the biggest issue, if he is staying on I think Ederson starts. If Trafford is in goals I think we should be working on new ways to beat the press. We need a lot more movement off the ball to create space and players taking responsibility to recieve passes in our own final third.

A big question over the goalkeeper but I think it will do us a lot of long term good to play Trafford again. It's probably a worse decision to let that error linger in him, he needs to get back on the pitch and get over it. It's a simple mistake, that we see from plenty of goalkeepers. Next time just get rid of it if there's pressure on all of the receivers. I'm sure the coaching staff have been through alternative ways of managing that scenario with him.

Otherwise, depending on the fitness of Rodri and Foden I'd be playing:

Trafford, Nunes, Stones, Dias, Gvardiol, Nico, Bernie, Reijnders, Doku, Bobb, Haaland

The balance will be much better with Bernie in there instead of Cherki. Gives us a good number of attacking options on the bench to change the game. Taking Cherki off against Spurs made us pretty toothless, I don't recall us creating much once he went off.

I think Ait-Nouri is gonna be alright for weekend but yeah O'Reilly in for him if unavailable. Agree we need to be much more dynamic off the ball and eager to find those positive runs aswell.

The more I think about it the more i feel that the reason Crystal Palace or Brighton have the confidence to go at us is because of our recent struggles against the top 6.

A Bournemouth approach would be very different if they saw us beat Arsenal or Liverpool or the rags 4-0 3-0 the previous week.
The confidence sinks even before a ball is kick.
Now we get defeated by Spurs at Etihad and suddenly Brighton thinks they have a decent chance in the game.

We need to put a marker down like we used to do before. A 4-0 5-0 win every other week and the opponents knows who is the king of the league.
None of this Fulham Wolves Brighton will be tricky nonsense.

The reason 'lesser' clubs think they have a chance against City now is because they see exactly what we see .... an erratic team who are nowhere near as good as they used to be, mainly down to the quality players that have left, and the players that have arrived, many of whom have been sub standard ... and also our annoying knack of picking up constant injuries, which is absolutely no basis for building team spirit, togetherness or consistency, and a winning mentality .... half our players aren't even delivering the level of performance that WE know, and THEY know, they're capable of delivering!

We may never see glory days like we've recently enjoyed again, and right now we're at the stage of taking on opponents, ANY opponent, and just HOPING that we'll take points of them ..... whereas it was more or less guaranteed a few years ago!

Check out our results against the top six over the past few seasons, and see how often during that period of time that we've actually won those fixtures, and you'll see why teams such as Brighton are increasingly fancying their chances against us now.

What they didn't cover though was that Spurs may have just ended up sitting deep when Ederson had it and then countering us anyway. There's no guarantee we'd have won with Ed and no guarantee he'd not have made a similar mistake to that Trafford made. He probably wouldn't, but I wouldn't put the error down to Trafford not being capable, just that they're all learning together at the moment still.

Separate point and irrelevant this in some respect, but that Spurs game was the kind of game was missing Kovacic. He has the ability to receive the ball deep in midfield and break the press by beating the man, which also helps when they go man-to-man like that.

RAN out. Back to Treble tactics. Take out any player who can't put in a shift defensively (Cherki, Rico)
Robust midfield. Rodri and Taj both great ball progressors but Nico will allow them to worry less about the transitions and counters. Ake more than good enough to keep Gvardiol's spot warm.

Verbruggen is a weak keeper. Shoot on target and it will go in.

Haven’t seen evidence of Foden in training this week - I reckon Van de Ven clattered his ankle again so doubt he’ll play unfortunately. Hoping intl break will see him right.
I also don’t think Ait Nouri wil be fit. Hoping Josko will be up for though.

Will be a tricky game. Hoping for an early goal. Would be good to see Nunes and Khusanov getting a chance.
