Essen v Dortmund and Lokomotive Leipzig v Schalke stand out

Vinny's boys gave Spurs a proper spanking yesterday, a few young lads on the score cards as well. Looks like the team can perform outside the farmers league. I hope he stays there for a very long time and gain all the experience he needs before moving on to PSG or a team in Spain.

German footballing gods haven't looked down on me this trip to Germany. I was hoping to go and watch Darmstadt play but Lufthansa lost suitcase so ended up having to deal with that so missed the opportunity. Then last Sunday found out Wehen Wiesbaden were at home so was hoping to watch that. Until the wife wanted to go up to sankt Goar for the day and missed the train we needed to get back in time. So if anyone on here is a fan of any of those teams you can thank the gods I didn't go as my previous games at Mainz and Ingelheim have resulted in loses for the home team.

Anyway had a look around Wiesbadens ground its a nice little stadium will have to go when I come back. cheered myself up buy buying myself the Darmstadt away top which can only be worn in a few weeks when I have run off all the German beer.

That’s quite a coup, I would say.

The Hamburg derby could be rather tasty.

It looks like they’ve also sold some rights to… Mark Goldbridge (I kid you not)

Dirty oil money for the german rags :-)

German football likes to make out like it’s whiter than white, and is a fan led initiative.

In reality it is dominated by Bayern Munich who’s owners (49%) include a division of the one of the largest car manufactures in the world, one of the worlds largest financial institutions (which actually makes them the richest sports club in the world going by ownership wealth) and the largest sportswear manufacturer in the world. This means that Bayern have in the past been given access to favourable sponsorship deals to grow them into the dominant force that they are where every other German club is effectively a feeder club to them.

Dortmund have links to Russian oil and gas companies, same as Schalke.

Leverkusen are owned by one the worlds largest pharmaceutical companies, they are even named after them.

Wolfsburg are owned by one of the largest car manufacturers in the world.

Stuttgart are owned by 2 of the largest luxury car manicures in the world.

Bremen have a shipping magnate as one of their owners.

The reality is German football and also Netherlands football have more of a history of being created, owned and operated by commercial companies than English football clubs are. But having fans banging drums constantly during the game helps perpetrate the myth that their fans 51% ownership gives them a say in the running of their club, and that they have a healthy league that doesn’t suffer from the commercialisation of other football clubs.
