Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Do we think pep will change his playing style this season go more direct as we have quick players for transition play . Last season when we went direct if worked but pep just went back to what he knows .
Not a change he changes the way we play.

He always looks and sounds freezing in press conferences before games. Do we hold them in a fridge?

I do think that Lijnders is having more of a say than we believe. There are signs of us trying to transition quickly in attack, Wolves was a great example against Spurs as well we lost the ball ,but we were hoofing it quickly into the final third instead of careful build up. Cherki was key to that, hitting balls in behind if Marmoush had better control he would've been in a few times.

It's like a combination of styles. Klopps /Lijnders quick counter attack looping balls into the channels for wingers to run onto and Peps build up from the back keep possession. Right now its not clicking, but when it does it'll be something special hopefully.

Agreed. We don't need to change the way we play, but we do need to do it more quickly, and with more variety.

I saw a clip pop up on twitter yesterday, Sergios record breaking 178th goal for us against Napoli....look how fast we were ffs, almost made me cry lol (about a minute in)

Teams couldn't live with it. Right now, we are the easiest City team clubs will have faced in years....slow, ponderous, sideways, backwards. Have a brew while you are getting back in shape ffs.

What we also must recognise is that the possession game that has given us the dominance that we have achieved is now competing against exceptionally well-coached defensive setups that nullify space, and cut off passing angles. This is the nature of the beast, and why sport continually develops. Whether people think it has improved as a viewing spectacle is up for debate, but I am someone who enjoys the tactical battle. Speed, of course, can be used to counter those tactics: if we can learn how to break at speed, and dominate possession - and PSG are doing that - then we will be very dangerous indeed.

And when we had centre- backs who were a threat in the opposition goal area...

We could always try fucking shooting from distance though, that’s why I like Marmoush just look at that thunder bastard at the end of last season, when you watch all the training videos City push out they are constantly shooting, yet in games we hardly seem to test the keeper from range.

We scored the most goals from outside the area last season.

Nooo way! Surely not?

I'm not disbelieving you BTW, just I am astounded at that stat- I know I was constantly shouting shoot, but i only remember Moushies thunder rocket :-)
Can’t find where I saw it now but think it was 12 ,somebody might be able to find the stat.

Found it
Back to this season, it might surprise you that Manchester City – so often geared towards trying to work the ball into the opposition box for their predatory striker Erling Haaland to finish – have actually scored the most goals from outside the box in the Premier League (11),

I don't think the style of system has become outdated nor that coaches have worked out how to counter it. We are just really shit at playing that way. It used to be one of two touch pass and move football, with incredible intensity off the ball. If a team did defend against it, they would usually run out of steam and we would find the goal we needed.

We didn't do enough to bring the next top players through to evolve it and through a combination of mother time and injuries were left with no energy to break teams down. Walking football won't win anything. Inject some pace into a possession dominant approach and it will be as successful as it always has been.

Against Spurs was the same old issues of individual errors and a real lack of energy off the ball. The latter being something Pep would never have stood for.
