Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

We were playing ok first half and looked in control.

Not for the first time we faded and looked incapable of matching them second half.

Maybe lack of matches but also some players need to up their level.

Rodders excellent, a huge positive to see him looking like his old self.

RAN maybe not 100% but he has got to be better.

We will get better but there’s probably going to be more days like this for a while.

Not going to win anything with our defence at the moment. Without Gvardiol there's a severe lack of actual defensive ability. Khusanov did well but ultimately fucked up with a pointless foul for their first - he's a young player, you can accept that. Dias failed to step up and play them off for the second after Stones gave it straight to them. Ait-Nouri suspect defensively but more worryingly totally ineffective going forward so far. Nunes, don't make me laugh. Lewis isn't a defender either but at least he's not giving away penalties and throwing games away.

Feel sorry for Trafford, deserved much more.

Those calling for Pep out, if you can't name a manager to replace him then shut the fuck up. You think there's a manager that can win the title with Nunes playing at right back? He knew that guy wasn't up to it within weeks. And don't give me Delph or Zinchenko. Nunes' problem isn't that he isn't a defender - it's that he's stupid.

Recruitment hasn't changed a bit. Too complacent and focusing on the wrong areas. If it's a money issue, then signing both Khusanov and Reis was a mistake when we have 3/4 centre backs who need to go sooner rather than later. Should have been a right back and a centre back in this summer.

Haaland needs to look at himself too. Should have had a hat trick in the first half and the game is over.

The positive is that Rodri controlled the game for the first hour until his legs went. Pep should have been brave enough to bring Nico on after that.

This is spot on, but still made me LOL.

Every team we play against they look fitter, quicker and physical.
They are!!

They are.mkre intense. When a ball is punted long, opposition players hunt it down with purpose. Making the reciver make a decision.

We hoof it and watch Haaland lose every header or the ball collected by the CB. Playing in his slippers and smoking a fat Cuban.

All the signings are decent - Reindeers, Cherki, Ait-Nouri, Trafford. How many of Spurs or Brighton players get into our side. Max 1 or 2. I'm afraid we cannot blame the recruitment.
Decent perhaps but we’re the biggest club in the country with the best infrastructure and manager. We shouldn’t be settling for half decent players ffs. Championship keepers, Wolves’ left back, Cherki - a very very poor man’s Nasri, Reindeers - cheap for a reason

It's a double-whammy:
1) We are genuinely struggling, of course
2) Every team loves to have a crack at an ex-dominant side.

The look of expectation/enthusiasm on opposition players' faces in the pre-match tunnel tells a chilling story. It used to be fear, and not so long ago.

Too many players are below the level required…
Doku, Bobb, Ait Nouri, Marmoush are run of the mill and not good enough for me.
Nunes another fuck up, Dias exposed again for pace, Bernardo finished.

He took Khusanov of presumably because he had a yellow card, players need to be trusted to keep their heads. He did this last season at Forest, taking off Gonzalez because he was on a yellow and we lost control.
We created next to nothing in 2nd half, Doku and Bobb were awful. Long season ahead I’m afraid.

In fairness to Pep, Khusanov was down needing treatment. He was initially subbing Dias on for Stones, for some reason

Scum at home next. We laugh at them but I genuinely can see us losing that game with our ropey defence and their 3 new forwards. Then Arsenal away is one of the toughest tests. There’s a very realistic chance we take 3 points from our first 5 games here. Slightly worrying time at the moment.

But what on earth was going on today with giving the ball away? We couldn’t seem to string 3 passes together without gifting them the ball. Also noticed us finding it a lot tricker to pass it round the oppositions box.

On a positive, Trafford’s shot stopping stopped the game from being a whole lot worse.

Unfortunately, the club chose to sign mediocre players at low prices instead of bringing in superstars who could make a difference. This team, which once boasted amazing players, now has soft players unable to resist or compete. Add to that the coach's poor selections and even worse interventions.

Most of the concerns will be about our defence, but it's worth noting that in 3 games, we have had 12 shots on target. That's very average.

Bobb, Lewis, Nunes & O’Reilly are not of the standard required if the aim is to win the big trophies. The drop off over the last few years is alarming

How many fucking Fullback do we have a the club ????????????????????????

Pep, Sorry you are totally wrong with this squad and your ideas are OLD and you have been found out

Hope to never see Nunes in a City shirt again, completely brain dead, on the replay he looked like a muppet show character in slo motion with his arms thrashing around his head…. here’s a pro tip Nunes…put your arms behind your back for set pieces.

Completely one paced team with some flashes of great football but no real understanding of each other.

Add to that an inability to defend and a persistence with the high line…. Never going to end well

2020/21. First 3 games.

I'm not saying we have nothing wrong, but I guarantee there were people saying Pep out late in 2020 too. Let's just give the team time to gel, see what we do to adapt and maybe breathe a little.

Decent first half without being particularly fluid. With better finishing we could have been two or three up.
The second half, certainly after they made the changes was a different kettle of fish. We went from being the better side to being clearly second best. No shape and no plan, no creativity and didn't look like scoring at all.
It's a worry that we don't appear either capable or willing to shoot.
I really can't see how we move on from here without a significant change in mindset. We looked mid table at best in that second half and against spurs. There is certainly no fear factor when we play others anymore. It is all very slow and predictable.

Remind me what idiot wants this calamity Nunes to be our starting RB?
I said I thought he could do a job - but NO defender should have their arms in that position in their own penalty area.
Gotta say ANY RB watching us today would be giving us a swerve though.
We have problems both sides because we don't have wingers willing to put in the dirty work coming back.

Winning 1-0 . Looked very solid. Everyone was playing well. Then they brought on 4 subs all at once. Seemed like a last throw of the dice for them and we didn't react and defend as a unit.
We shouldn't lose that game. Good can turn towards ugly and that's what happened as margins are small at this level. Confidence will be low and I'm not sure Pep can bring us out of this little blip. A long wait until the Derby.
