Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

I'm not sure putting Reis and Echeverri out on loan was a great idea, we're defo not too good at the moment to find room for the supposed best young defender in Brazil and best young attacker in Argentina.

100%, it actually started in the 4 in a row season. We got lucky in that season and just made it over the line to win the thing. So it's more like 18 to 20 months
There’s no luck in going unbeaten in final 23 games of the season, winning 19 of them, including all of the last 9.

The team was coming to its end that season, the best players were all getting older, but we were in no way lucky to win that title.

Disclaimer: I don't know anything about the back-room staff, or their history. Or the board.

Is there a designated defensive coach at the club?

I remember - and there could only have been a handful of games left in the season last year - when I heard an amazing stat, that Burnley had only conceded THREE second-half goals all season.

I appreciate that they were one of the strongest teams in the Championship. I also realise that some will say that they were only defending against Championship attacks - to which the obvious answer is that they were doing it with a Championship defence.

But that can't have been luck, over such a long period, can it? That smacks of either a team, or an individual, who seriously understands how to coach a defensive line.

Jeez - if it was one man, he wouldn't even need to move house...

Watching Liverpool vs Arsenal and I'm coming to the conclusion that the level of the league this year is going to be pretty poor. Both these sides look effective but average.

Where are the truly great players?

Same as last week, average first half with players making wrong decisions, legs fell off second half. Still undecided if unfit or just shit.

Brighton played like they would go down until today.

I watched Grealish first start at Everton last weekend. They beat Brighton 2-0. Brighton looked quite weak. Everton had a blast.

Never thought City could not finish them with a big win.

what is going wrong?
I heard from very unreliable non City sources Pep has lost the dressing room. Not convinced but I will be surprised if this is not the end of an era.

When is it acceptable to stop overhyping Oscar Bobb?
When he was recovering from his injury last season he achieved a status among the fan base that other players have to work really hard for. He's clearly very talented, but he's never consistently proven that he's good enough to start for us. He's relatively inexperienced at the top level for his age as well.

As stated earlier we have had a 15 year run at the top table and won the lot. It was absolutely ace.

But it's done. Over. Finito.

Far too many in power at the club - the manager very much being one of them - have got far too comfy and standards have been allowed to slide. We've added 1 class player - Gvardiol - in the last 5 transfer windows. 1!

Can't wait to see the set of criteria for acquiring a ticket next season - they'll be begging people to come back and fill that North Stand having spent the past few years treating the match going fanbase like shite. Remember all that support from the club we got for the conditions and shitshow for fans in Istanbul? No me neither.

We don't know who the no1 Goalkeeper is - this greatly affects how we actually play but we've blundered into the season with 4 of them yet are still apparently buying another one, who also can't play with the ball at his feet.

At full-back we've got 2 blokes from Wolves - one never will be good enough, the other already looks out of his depth.

Centre halves - we've 23 of them but who is the best pairing? Pep doesn't seem to have a clue on that. Stones was on his way out last month - now he's an automatic starter. Dias has dropped off a cliff again now he's dating. Khusanov disappeared for 2 months and has now reappeared.

Midfield wise Rodri stands alone by a mile. The rest are either too old, too flaky or not anywhere the standards we had. Gonzalez seems to always be the scapegoat yet Bernardo is still picked despite his legs looking like they've gone. Reijnders disappears when the going gets tough. He's clearly located that hole Alfie Haaland used to hide in for 90 mins.

Our wingers are tripe. Not a single one could hold a candle to Sane, Sterling or Mahrez. Doku's had 2 seasons - that's 1 too many already. And we turned down £63m for the other duffer who contributed 1 goal and can't cross a road. Palmer was sold - Oscar Bobb was retained......that frankly doesn't look like the correct call and that's being kind.

Up top Haaland must shake his head at those providing service. Marmoush has shown flashes
of brilliance. He's also shown flashes of complete unawareness of what's around him on the pitch & fluffed his big moment at Wembley, for which I doubt I'll ever forgive him for.

Meanwhile Pep looks on and continually exclaims how happy he is with his squad. If you wanted a guide to self-managed decline, since summer 2023 we've written the book on it.
So you don’t think we’ll win the league then?
