Manuel Akanji | Rumours of an Inter loan deal

That Nunes performance makes me think we might need to keep Manu for now.

At least Nunes tracks runners in the box and is useful on the ball. Nunes is annoying as apart from the regular catastrophic fuck ups I think he looks good at right back 90% of the time.

Of course the regular fuck ups are far from ideal and I think going into the season with just him and Rico at right back is criminally negligent but he's genuinely the best option at the moment. Maybe the mistakes would go away if he wasn't so in and out of the side.

Akanji was alright when we had Mahrez in front of him but he kills our build up when he plays full back and he's hardly been rock solid defensively recently either.

We did also have Walker at RB though.

Yes, but we had only Ake at LB. And he got injured 5-6 weeks before the end of the PL season. Fortunately, Akanji was versatile enough, Pep played him at LB vs Arsenal and Real, with Walker at RB.

Agree, I wasn't against him being moved on this summer as part of the refresh, but he can also count himself unlucky:

- More accomplished than Lewis at Nunes at RB
- More reliable injury-wise that Stones & Ake, and with more pace than both. But those two are HG so have survived the cut.

Agree on both points and I'd add I actually think he's better than Dias and Khusanov on the ball too and I'm not even saying he's great at that.

Feel like he was turned into a bit of a scapegoat.

Give me a choice of who to start right back against United, him or Nunes, it's Akanji comfortably.

The whole IF they win means he is likely going to be back. Without it, it would have been a good deal. I wish we had the same clause for Ilkay, extension IF we win, not just 50% of games.

I wouldn't get too hung up about it, it's only mandatory under those conditions but if Akanji does well for them but they finished second I don't see why they wouldn't still want to sign him for 10 or 12 million.

I am not diminishing Akanji's role in the treble one bit.

I am saying it is not comparable to where we are now.

I agree, we had a far more established team back then. Small tactical tweaks were enough to have a legendary season. Now a far more work is needed.

C'mon Inter then, be supporting them in Serie A!

It is not the worst of conditions. He may well play 50% games, or they may fail to win the league but want to take up the option of buying him anyway. If it happens, good deal.

At the end of the day, with less than 5 hours to go, and 2 players over the limit, his reluctance to join 'lesser' clubs, it is about as good a deal as we could have hoped for. Assuming they are paying his wages.
Think we are footing some of the wages but the club wanted him gone so it’ll have to do.

Fancy a game of dominoes?

It is total guesswork either way, as nothing has been claimed. I'll go with they are paying all his wages, because that suits me better ;).

What is it with Italian clubs in general taking the piss with getting players in on loan deals.

Haha. The state of that deal. He must be earning some serious money for us to cut our losses that easily. Without an obligation to buy either!

Great move for him. Playing for Inter and living in Milan. It’s a tough life being a professional football player.
