Hugo Viana | Director of Football

Exactly. It's a steady income stream. That's all they're interested in. They'll be all over any new Super League like a bad rash.
I wouldn’t mind too much if that were the case but they have to be straight with us and tell us what their objectives and strategy are. CFG objectives do not necessarily coincide with Mcfc objectives or those of the fans.

There’s no doubt we’ve lost the transfer window to Liverpool. They’ve recruited magnificently it has to be said and have done exactly what we should have done in the close season of 2023. HOWEVER, I genuinely think there’s a good reason why we haven’t exactly been shopping for the world’s best players or should I say 115 reasons. There’s no doubt in my eyes that agents and top players have this in the back of their minds and therefore we are hamstrung in the market because of it.
I fully expect that once our good name has been restored and all charges cleared that the club will come out fighting. In terms of trophies, in terms of signings in terms of progression of the club on and off the field maybe we ain’t seen nothing yet!

MCFC no longer exists. It's just the CFG. CFG objectives for Manchester City don't need to coincide with what the fans want, and the owners don't need to be straight with anyone but the PL, UEFA etc.

Like I've said, lots of fans blinked and they missed it.

Another mediocre window closes in which we’ve bought lightweights and second / third rate players and haven’t addressed the glaringly obvious problem positions. This will inevitably lead to a mediocre season.

I’d be amazed if we matched what we did last season.

From a fan's point of view, there's nothing wrong with a mediocre season. We've had dozens of them and we keep coming back every week for more.

From the CFG point of view, finishing outside CL qualification places would probably be a financial disaster.

The main issue is 'are the club moving in the right direction?'

The last year or two suggests that we may not be. It's a complacent mess that Viana has walked straight into.

I think we still have the highest wage bill in PL. some of our mediocre players are on quite the salary even some deadwood.

we cannot finish outside CL places with highest wage bill.

thats nonsense.

Viana has had a mammoth task of clearing out the squad and reducing stupidly high wages bills. He’s brought in some top players, just need to settle.

If Liverpool signed Reijnders and Cherki you’d all be raging.
If they were their only main buys then i highly doubt we'd all be raging

The squad is in better shape than it was but it feels like we have made project signings as opposed to proven players. I would give it a 6/10 on the basis we didn't sign a RB and were messing around with a goalkeeper on the last day of the window still.

We haven't offloaded players we wanted to, which shows that whilst there's a lot of respect and harmony when things are going well, when times are tough they'll be the selfish bunch they are everywhere else. Can't blame them when they have contracts but maybe we should rethink being so happy to let people leave as well?

Once it's shut we know what we are working with and can crack on with our season. Time will tell whether we need another £300m outlay next summer. The positive is we can afford to go again if we need to.

Biggest surprise for me in general terms is that no one managed to tempt Semenyo from Bournemouth and he signed a big contract there instead. Would have improved the majority of sides in my opinion.

Semenyo is a cracker, isn't he.

It's all to be announced. I don't think any departures, nor arrivals, have been confirmed.

Yeah he really is. Every time I watch him I think he is the player we could do with Doku being. He gets more space but he seems much more comfortable all over the forward line and has more to his game. Doku has time on his side at least.

Would expect that it's Donnarumma and done for us which overall makes it a good couple of windows but when you look at what Liverpool have done it feels a bit meh - results for us this season add to that of course. Broken record but no RB again is a big mistake by the board.

I confess to being pleased with our decision to not invest in an RB.
I'm sure that Doku and Savinho will come good.

Also how many clubs are whispering "don't go to City they are going down, we've got inside info" Every trick in the book will be being played. City know this and I think once all the charges are dropped a billion quid is being spent the week after.

You need to explain that one!

Time is a healer. Games will come thick and fast after the international break and that will help us find our best team. Doku I'm not sure about but Savinho has great potential.
