Hugo Viana | Director of Football

And there it is.

Why didn't anyone at the club think of that?
Offer him and Akanji to Palace for Guehi.

Obviously it's the wages issue that would be a problem.

This is why it's hard for the bigger Clubs to offload who they no longer need.

It’s not a question of the ones I want or don’t want. It’s just a fact that we don’t have any RBs.

Nunes isn’t a RB. He wasn’t signed as RB and didn’t play RB for Wolves. Pep keeps playing him at RB and for some reason thinks he’s good at it…

Lewis has played various positions including RB and failed to prove that he is an adequate RB. In fact he’s proved the opposite…that he’s not a RB.

Anyone who can’t see this is just delusional, sorry.

I just cannot believe that there were no suitable RB options this summer. Surely to fuck there must have been someone somewhere on the planet that was available and better than the two we’ve got!

Maybe not mate

Frimpong plays years as a RWB in a back 5 = defender

Rico lewis plays years an inverting full back in a back 4 = not a defender

Fair enough.
Yes RWB in a back 5 is more attacking but you can still call him a defender, he's still a natural wide player at least, Rico is a natural midfielder and it doesn't matter how many games he's played at RB, he offers next to nothing there.

You can call the bloke who's repeatedly played at RB for nearly all his career so far a defender too though, even if you don't rate him.

Yeah he's a natural midfielder playing an inverted role, Frimpong couldn't invert.

Rico isn't a wing back sure, but despite all the statements in this thread he can be thought of as a defender as that's where he tends to play.

Nunes - isn't a defender yet, clearly Pep wants to make him one.

Well the inverted thing is another problem but fair enough.

The stupid thing is that Frimpong and Couto have been through our academy. Porro at Spurs played for us too; along with Kyle Walker at Burnley who looked fine on Saturday. And we’re stuck with Nunes who I thought did a reasonable job last season but clearly needed to be replaced.

For me Porro is the miss for sure, if he'd been available I'd have been all over him. Not sure Couto or Frimpong are even as good as Nunes defensively, at least he's pretty strong and sturdy.

Doesn't that leave us an even bigger problem at RB though, who'd play there?
3 at the back ;-)

Out of what we have it's Rico for me. If the rest of the team is performing, a less quality right back shouldn't be an issue.

I think because we aren't playing well as a team people are looking at the right back as being the issue.

Yesterday apart from Rodri and maybe Bobb and Haaland, the outfield team did not play well or to their capabilities.

Brighton were pretty crap, but were able to beat us.

Someone should of explained to Viana that Wolves have been pulling our pants down in the transfer market since the Steve Daly saga in 1979.

Nunes be ok.

Rest of the team is also in a mess.

Start getting a stable team.

Injuries again tho?

Still more than enough to compete if the players run and fight.

Rodri sick of them already.

I was down but now back on the city wagon thanks Donna.

Come on pep, some small changes and bit of stability needed.

he couldnt get rid of Phillips. 150K per week to be wired to him then. Kalvin is laughing imo.
and still contracted until summer 2028?
thank you Txiki
That deal never made any sense. Out of every player we’ve signed him and Grealish are the only ones to get the longest contracts.

What was Txiki thinking

Watching Liverpool v Arsenal yesterday I could not fail to notice how both sides looked far more physically imposing than our team earlier whilst maintaining a high level of quality.
They run so much and everyone can do extraordinary things.

Szbos crazy freekick.
VVD can run with the ball and dribble past defenders
Eze is silky
Everyone can run for miles and miles

So different from us

In that case, Joelinton will always be a centre forward.
Players have been moulded by coaches in to new positions since the dawn of time. It is also true that we simply do not play the traditional full back role at the club. It is not delusional to say that Lewis and Nunes are our right backs. It is truth. But it is true that many posters want a traditional RB and they don't believe that Nunes and Lewis can do that job.

In what world can you be pleased in us not signing a RB?
We don’t currently have one. What other team in the PL doesn’t have even one RB?
I'm far more concerned about Pep right now, not to mention what is the true nature of the relationship between our manager and our new DoF. Since when did Pep stop caring about a vigorous press and recovery after disposession? Or is he simply befuddled about all that? If he's being sabotaged by poor play/lack of effort by his players, what exactly is Hugo doing in the transfer market?

Another thing: Khusanov must start ahead of Dias and pace in the backline is of paramount importance, if we are going to stick with Pep's system, as it's been here. Look, I consider Pep to be the greatest manager possibly ever and I have no doubt that he has it within him to create a new monster squad, but I think he needs to make some significant tweaks to how we play. Maybe it's possible that Donna's acquisition today will be the key to unlock a brand new system for us...? If so,it will be riveting for supporters. Is it possible we glimpsed a preview of it in preseason?
