Welcome Donnarumma!

And you've no clue.

Donnarumma has evolved into a world class shot stopper. His distribution is better than Joe Hart's... but that is the best compliment I can pay for him in this regard.

Donnarumma isn't a sweeper - isn't a gifted passer - he's a David de Gea... and on huge wages (presumably).

So we start with a David de Gea-like keeper - with our ball retention system - play it from the back - use the keeper as an additional player...

This has disaster written all over it.

Just like he was a disaster for PSG and Italy? The former being a team that regularly plays the ball out from the back on their way to winning major trophies.

You say I have no clue and yet I’ve seen him play live multiple times for both PSG and Italy - where as you’re basing your views on what you’re reading and hearing on tv and the internet.

You’re just a silly old man who believes everything he reads and hears. All it takes is a click of the media fingers for you to repeat their bullshit.

I really shocked (not) that the BBC and Sky have managed to focus on all the negatives on the signing of the best keeper in the world
And you've zero clue.

Courtois is the best pure shot stopper in the world.

Donnarumma on current form is maybe 2nd best.

But our system demands that our keeper is excellent on the ball. And in this regard, Donnarumma falls far short.

Crazy he is only 26, feels like his name has been in football forever.

I don't watch PSG much so I've no concept of how good his kicking is, but he was immense in the Italy Euro win. Felt like nothing would get past him in goal, incredible shot stopper.

Top drawer signing. Big presence. Arguably a marquee signing and good that someone of his status was willing to come. We have one of the best GKs, a balon d'Or winner DM and the best striker in the world. Hopefully will come good when the other new arrivals bed in. A top class RB and winger still needed.

We’re far from our best but with this signing we have a good spine.
Donnarumma
Rodri
Haaland.

If Gvardiol can become the player we know he can be it’s a great platform to build off.
Maybe 2 or 3 signings off being able to challenge again.

Great signing.
In my opinion he’s the best keeper in the world currently.

100% agree.

Trafford fits our system - very capable on the ball and an excellent shot stopper. He fits our system.

But now we've signed Donnarumma who is average on the ball, and is, on his day, the best or second best at stopping goals.

Fucking hell. Heard it all now.

He's regarded as one of the best stoppers in the world and since 2021 his save to shot ratio is the highest of ANY keeper in Europe.

Also over the past 2 seasons his pass completion is higher than Raya, Sanchez and Alisson. Make of that what you will.

The lad is world class and will undoubtedly improve the team

Trafford will have expected Ederson to leave, but he wouldn't have expected a keeper like Donnarumma to sign .... this keeper is a big name, and a major stumbling block to Traffords progress here, and he'll immediately take precedence for the keepers position.

Trafford will still get enough game time to improve and prove himself, working with a keeper like Donnarumma every day will only help his improvement as well. If he can improve to the extent he gets towards Donnarumma's level he'll get plenty more games and potentially displace him, if he doesn't get to that level then frankly it'll mean he's not good enough to be our full-time number 1 anyway.

We won 100 points, a domestic treble and the treble with a host of world-class players. That is THE level required to be considered a key player at this club, academy product or not.

Well said mate.

It’s actually scary how powerful the media is in warping peoples perspectives.

OK OK OK !!!

But does he fucking track back?

We've bought him to raise the standard. A winner who's not going to take any of this flaky, half-arsed shit we've been serving up for the last year and a half. I hope he upsets a few in the dressing room if it's necessary.

Upon reflection this really is a top signing with succession planning. People clambering to hang on to Eddie for another year made no sense when we would need to address the GK next year with potentially an even narrower GK market. Plus, it was clear as day Eddie wanted out as he made no indications of wanting to sign a new contract.

Like Trafford as a signing but you can't tell me everyone is super confident with him as a our starter going into the big matches such as Real Madrid away. He's still young & has a lot to learn. Hope we keep our claws in him when he too turns 26 & is at his peak similar to what Donnarumma is now.

From a fan's perspective, I think we're a lot more confident with Donnarumma's leadership & big match experience qualities & potentially saving some pens for us. Who knows if he would have saved Milner's penalty over the weekend & earnt us a draw - fine margins & all that.

He for sure is a world class shot stopper.

But his pass completion percentage is due to PSG coping for his inability on the ball. PSG have world class CBs and left/right backs - and PSG play from the back with the keeper passing to someone actually able to pass. They've been carrying Donnarumma in this regard.

Now that we've signed Donnarumma on huge wages - he's very likely to start.

But unlike PSG we don't have the backfield to carry Donnarumma's average passing ability... at all.

It's going to be a disaster.

Fantastic signing! Best keeper in the world, CL winner, just the level of signing we should be getting.

Welcome to Manchester. A good enough replacement for Eddy fingers crossed he can settle quickly.
