Have many of our “fans” become entitled?

I haven’t bothered to go on the Barca Boys thread as I sensed it would be bad news. In past seasons we knew most of the moaning would be from posters who hadn’t been to enough games to get a ticket for a high demand away game. Now it might be a crime on here to be from Barcelona.

Loads of good posters and top Blues on here. Loads of other top Blues are staying away.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. There's the 'modern football is shite' brigade and the 'we hate the Barca boys, the Arabs don't care it's just an investment to them' brigade. Old men yelling at the clouds.

There's some amazing posters on here though and some really genuinely interesting and insightful stuff too. You just have to know where to look, and more importantly which 'characters' to ignore.

What got to realise it’s not normal what pep the team have done, expectations do rise. If you no football the history of it last season was coming, a lot of us thought it would come after the treble.. Now this entitled business, when you hear pep Khaldoon saying 3rd isn’t good last season wasn’t good enough then we as fans talk looks like entitlement.

Happy to never win a trophy ever again.

Unhappy seeing no effort, passion or desire as I witnessed Sunday
This and only this, maybe there is a new generation of fans who expect to win because they have not known anything else and i would be more than happy if their nonsense toddled off to twitter or tik tok or wherever the kids hang out but for people who saw us at our worst the ideas remain the same anyone can lose a match, football is unpredictable and thats the nature of it BUT as long as the team tries then people will take it, if the players dont try then people are gonna be pissed and id say rightly so.

Have to agree with this. It's difficult for anyone to come out of a prosperous period, or keep it going, as change is required and it's never a smooth road.

I can forgive the team for last year, I mean 3rd and a cup final (with a dodgy decision against us affecting the outcome, let's not forget) isn't a disaster by any means. I can forgive the hiccup in starting this season.

But I want to see a plan, a desire to win, progress. I mean, doesn't any fan of any club? It's going to take time, but surely we have the right people to make it happen. Let's not turn on the team like United would, it just compounds the situation.

It's a very competitive league and I'm going to hate it when we don't win anything. But Khaldoon told us the aim was to have a football club which was competitive every single year. So whilst I don't expect to win everything, and I will be sore when we lose, I do expect us to be in the conversation regularly.

Maybe it's something about having sat in the pissing rain away at Bury, hoping we can at least get a draw, then breakdown on the way home, but I can live with a couple of losses in August, especially when you know the weaponry behind the curtain just waiting to be loosed is just immense.

We’ve now got over 50s whining on about the management. Now for the past 2 years I’ve had a moan about Pep and this high line. But that’s his problem to sort out and I’m sure he will. City are in transition and it’s going to take a few more windows to get us where we were. But the average age of the squad will be around 25

It’s a very dangerous road to walk down when you start saying things like the team don’t care, they didn’t try etc. Especially when you’re talking about a collection of players and a manager who have delivered success previously thought of as impossible.

That Barca boys thread was nothing short of disgraceful and ungrateful. Derogatory and full of ignorance

This isn't really true I'm afraid. The balance of 'supporters' who are irrationally angry at one poor season is equally weighted between the young who don't know better, and the old guard of miserable cunts who seem to hate everything about City and yet spend their lives talking about City.

That "Barca Boys" thread is a great example. Absolutely delusional old men sat around talking about the management of a billion pound plus football club as if they have any clue what happens at executive level. Some proper Walter Mitty types who think reading a book about flying a plane means they can fly a plane better than F1 pilots. Laughable.
I have addressed this point in another follow-up post and we are not in disagreement in terms of our older fans. The post you quoted was in response to a bump that said that a male in his 20s in the City end was booing and I was dealing with that particular point, not our support overall. I didn’t comment on older fans, or draw a distinction - so you are disagreeing with an inchoate point.

I agree that many of our older fans are amongst the most embittered. I see it at plenty of games, especially aways. So your post is disagreeing with a point that I agree with you on.

However to suggest that a period of 14 years with 25 trophies isn’t going to impact on the disposition of some City fans who were, say, 8, at the start of that run, simply isn’t a sustainable argument. Of course it will manifest itself in some young supporters with an inability to cope when that level of success comes to an end. That isn’t a controversial point, and something else you agree with me on.

Haven’t been in the Barcelona boys thread, but might venture in as it sounds like I could have a bit of fun…

I wouldn’t do it. You’ll need a shower afterwards!

Thinking about it, and seeing as the point is in issue, I think the sight of embittered older City fans is far less appealing than that of younger ones because the former should appreciate our success more given their wider experience and (theoretically) perspective. They should be much more aware of how fortunes can change in professional sport, and how little control supporters have over that.

They should definitely know better and their anger is definitely far uglier than in younger supporters.

Our problem stems from the handling of Pep's contract extension. This impacted our spending and recruitment IMO severely and others have taken this opportunity to strike aggressively in the transfer market. You can't blame the club for trying to accommodate Pep and his desire to not make big movements in the market when he clearly didn't think it was needed.

Yeah that’s pretty much my take too. Anger is unappealing at the best of times, but some of the raging and hysteria about Pep/the players/the board is practically mindless from people who sadly don’t want to know better.

I am glad I have not read it.

When my Mum died, a lifelong Blue, r kid got a message of condolences from Ferran Soriano’s sister. It doesn’t say that much in itself but the constant hate from the critics is well over the top.

Likewise there is a myth that City Matters is the only group that took any credit for the ticket price reductions. Last night on X, I read one of the unofficial fans groups taking credit for the price reductions for what feels like the 50th day in a row.

Progress isn't always linear, which is why no team had ever won 4 titles in a row before we did it 15 months ago. At some point even the greatest teams have to take a step backwards to take a step forwards.

The thing that is funny/ironic/sad (delete as you see fit) is that the 'critique' seems to be aimed solely at the people who actually masterminded the record breaking 4 in a row titles, the 100 point team, the winning all domestic trophies in a season team.

It's the footballing equivalent of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Thankfully outside in the real world people are much more calm and considered about where the club is and where it's heading on the pitch.
If we win the legal case, open the new stand, and continue our rebuild, then our club will be in the strongest position it has ever been. The style of play will continue to evolve and more success will follow.
