City launch legal action against the Premier League | Club & PL reach settlement | Proceedings dropped (p1147)

Today's the day we became official members of the "cartel".

"@mancity are confident they will not be treated differently to any other TOP-4 club going forward" would have been better wording.

In 2023 our immediate rivals benefited from some eye-watering shareholders loans - Arsenal (£259m), Chelsea (£146m) and Liverpool (£137m). We drop the case and presumably any retrospective deep dive into their accounts simply goes away. This leaves Newcastle & Villa on their own to fight a battle for which I doubt they have the stomach, without City leading the way.

I fully expect that the PL is about to exonerate City and the 115 will be "settled" in the same way as APT. Shrouded in secrecy, NDA's and reporting restrictions. Khaldoon's promise to name and shame will be shelved. We will take the "pinch" without explanation. It's worth remembering that Khaldoon is a product of the all-American private school establishment, so don't be fooled that the colour of a man's skin in any way denies access to the financial elite.

Why now? Simply because the potless, debt-ridden, atrociously run rags have now been culled from the cartel and we have replaced them. They're following the money and future-proofing. The demise of Levy at Spuds ends any pretentions they had of sitting at the big boys table. Newcastle & Villa will continue to be on the outside looking in.

The cashcows of North & West London, East Manchester & that shithole at the end of the East Lancs will ride off into the distance, with the new status-quo ring fenced for decades.

Ticket partners, agencies, dynamic pricing, no season tickets, data driven tourist destinations. Hotels. Digital. Virtual. AI. Facial recognition. This is the future of elite football in England.

Clear and obvious.

As long as it means we can spend hundreds of millions and win more trophies than anyone else then that’ll do me.

There is literally no world where the rags would be culled from the cartel, mate.
There is in my world mate. Having said that, in my world they're also gonna be wiped out by a flesh eating superbug and consigned to eating the shit of a thousand puss ridden rats all day, everyday, for eternity.

God wills it.

It was painful having to read through some of that. “It won’t stop until fans boycott their games”. What planet do they live in?
I love how they think their fmv for sponsorship is still twice as big as a club that has won everything in the last ten years while they flirt with relegation.

Over the 10 years? It is worth MUCH more than. MUCH. Even conservatively a 2024 starting point with a 5% CAGR increase each year equates to a total of £1.25bn and a £155m by year 10. And I understand the deal is more than that. Biggest deal ever in English sport
We may also see a larger amount if this is group sponsorship instead of just MCFC. There are quite a few elements to consider as mentioned earlier and pulling such a justification together for a top 5 club in the worlds most popular sport would mean referring to the highest sponsorship to date for the individual elements and then applying a comfortable factor. I don’t think we’re pushing against an open door with Ethiad regarding the sums but it may be pretty close to one

I don't think we ever challenged the fundamental principle of APT rules, just the implementation. And I'd agree that shareholder loans were the lever we used to attack them, but the underlying issue was the way the PL dealt with the Etihad/First Abu Dhabi Bank/Emirates Palace sponsorships.

It could well be that there really is no linkage between Levy's sacking, this announcement and the outcome of the 115. But with the timing it's hard not to speculate about back-room deals.

Whatever people want to think or say about my information, it said that the PL came out of the hearing very badly, and were desperate to save face. Maybe this is all part of that. We may never know.

I’ve always felt that the emails will have showed corruption, but unfortunately I fear we will never see or hear how blatant it was.

Yes, but that only applies to the FFP calculation, not 'normal accounting'.

I'd take that phrase to mean properly accounting for all income, expenses, assets & liabilities at the value required by accounting standards and other relevant requirements.

We'd still need to show the full amount of any income in our statutory accounts, regardless of whether UEFA thought it was fair value or not.
I accept that in theory if APT didn't exist, City could sign an above FMV with Etihad and simply accept the adjustment from UEFA for all their tests. In fact, this is broadly UEFA's position as to what happened historically.

In practice, I think City operate on the basis that everything should be FMV and, in their view, always was. Not aware of any contract City openly admit was not FMV but could have missed that historically

Ok for the less educated, and without trawling through pages, can someone sum up quite succinctly, what the fu*k is going on?

What’s the positives and outlook, I take it we are winning…?

It is City only in this deal

Barcelona are looking for 120M Euros for their next sponsorship deal from Spotify, not sure if this is just the shirt or shirt/ stadium etc. RM currently get 70M Euros just for the shirt, PSG about the same. It would not be too far a stretch for the new Ethiad deal for Campus, Womens team, mens team and the stadium to be North of £100M as a starting point before the annual percentage increases that could be potentailly pegged to historical wage/ player inflation
Plus 35 million a year for the 'Etihad hotel'.
