He literally said the 1965 civil rights act that made racial discrimination illegal and gave black people the vote was "a huge mistake" because it brought about diversity in american politics and now we're having debates about if the man was racist or not.

Thinking people should be hired based on the color of their skin and/or gender instead of based on how qualified they are, is racist.
Coming to the conclusion that people hired on other values than merit will make the staff less qualified than if merit was the only thing that mattered, is common sense and has nothing to do with racism.

The woke has now gone full circle, a person thinking that race/ethnicity/gender/identity shouldn't be a factor when hiring someone or getting accepted at a school is now deemed as racist.
