Napoli (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

FWIW the angle from the primary camera side (closer to the ref’s) it really looked like he got a touch. But the opposite side angle showed he missed the ball by a wide margin. I thought at first he’d made the correct call based on the first angle. VAR made it clear he did not. An obvious red. Had the ref seen it from the other side of the play I think he would have called it a foul right away.
I’ll take your word for it mate as I’ve not seen any replays but from 100 yards away in the north stand, with dodgy eyesight, it was clearly an obvious foul and red card

So much for Napoli selling out in 33 minutes (reported in Italian press). There were about 250 empty seats at the back of their end.

I watched the highlights tonight of all the games, and I noticed that fans at most of the games made big efforts with pre-match displays. I am not really that keen on that. A lot of effort and singing is better.

Happy with that. A comfortable 2-0 win to get us underway and we didn't have to over-exert ourselves before Sunday's big match. Some extra rest for Rodders too which is nice (was a little surprised he started tonight tbh). Great assist from Phil and another record smashed for the Striking Viking (always good to take another off the rags). Doku looking better with every game and that was some goal he scored again.

Read my post pre derby on the general premier league fixtures thread when people said dippers make their own luck over the Burnley handball. I pointed out it was rightly given but that they get all these decisions instantly whilst we get around half and that’s after needing a review. If one team gets everything they deserve instantly whilst the other is open for interpretation it makes the laters job harder and they just “have” to be that bit better… echoed again tonight. Just the way football is at the pinnacle of the footballing triangle with “history” clubs. It won’t change for us unless we maintain dominance for 25 years+ if at all.

The Premier League doesn't even hide it (The Hate) they have for Manchester City, the amount of fines for so-called kicking off late ? But the one big glaring cheat is the Linesman Flag going up quickly on tight calls for offside when City are attacking, and then keeping it down on the opposite end, and it ends up being a corner, talk about 2 bites of the cherry

100% Pep quote on when we win titles and cup, they are so earned and very special to me because Manchester City never ask or gets help WE earn them

Really good win against a good side. So impressed with how we controlled the game and two good goals.

The Donnarumma effect in full flow, defence has been brilliant in his two games.

Actually think we will see the same starting line up against Arsenal. When was the last time we played the same eleven in three consecutive games??

2 absolutely brilliant goals against 10 men that were defending very well.

When will Erling Haaland get the recognition he deserves?

From us or outside? He will get it from us through being efficient. He will get it from outside when he has broken every stat record going, and even then, it would probably take 10 years to realise.

Recognition for what ? All he does is score. And score .... and score .... and score

Enjoyed that a lot. Even v 11 we were more accurate, quicker and more in control than we have been for many a month.
I don’t buy that we only won cos they had 10. Against 10 we had to play against parked buses, which we did well. Against 11, they would have pushed up more leaving more space for Erl and Jezza to run into.

I thought the same from the north stand but having now seen it on MOTD, there was an angle that it looked like he got a touch and that more or less coincided with the ref’s view. VAR did exactly what it was supposed to do and corrected the mistake.

Why did the Napoli fans have their ‘own’ banners/Flags upside down?
I don't know, The only thing I can assume was to psyche out Donnarumma as that is his province? Other than that, I am intrigued?

Good performance Foden was brilliant in the tight pockets even at 2-0 down he was tracking back unlike last season.
Doku was great second half we will need his goals if we're challenging at the top table this season. Haaland fantastic.

Onto arsenal we go
