25 | Gianluigi Donnarumma - 2025/26

Given giving it large to Gigi on MOTD - he would never had made that mistake apparently.

Given was a very good keeper and he is correct that if Donna had dropped quickly, he doesn’t get lobbed and quite probably would have saved any shot. However, it is often worth keepers taking the rick of getting lobbed, because more often than not, it does not happen, even at the top level.

The goal was a series of errors, including the referee and it was the only way Arsenal were getting a goal. One way or another it should have been avoided and players need to learn from it.

Whilst the goal was just a proper piece of skill, Donnarumma was an absolute colossus again for us, what a player that guy is, there's a reason he's rated rhe best in the world

I’ve said before. I wanted him at City before we ever got Eddie (who I rate very highly). I am delighted he is here and at 26, I expect him to learn and improve. As a keeper, you should always be improving your positioning. I played in goal a lot (Hough End level - literally) and even I found I was in the right position more often as I aged because you get better at reading the game.

If the defence stays deep, Donna isn’t so far out. I don’t know why there was a sudden change in approach but it’s cost us. They could have played all day and not scored, they created next-to-nothing in open play.
We were deep all second half. Why did we push forward in the 93rd minute? Caught on the break again. We were brilliant defensively till that moment.

The goal summed up the life of a goalkeeper perfectly. Great for 90 minutes and then one slight error of judgement costing his team

Thats true but others were culpable too. I saw Martinelli start his run and Josko didn't stay close enough. There was little pressure on Eze either. Shit happens and when a team is pressurised like we were, 95% of the time a goal is going to be shipped. We had chances to score a second though and it looked like we really restricted their opportunities. I havent seen the x-goal stats yet.

He really is ... Corners are Arsenal's biggest threat, and not one occasion was I worried, unlike in previous games against them.

Gigi commanded his box magnificently punching dangerous crosses from Rice to the edge of the box and further.

I'm sure he'll be gutted that Martinelli lobbed him, but the fault was further down the field.

Signing of the season.

XG for both teams just under 1, with their XG fractionally higher.

Wouldn't even say it was an error of judgement, he chose to leave Martinelli only one option to score and he pulled off a perfectly placed lob. I'd rather credit the good play from Arsenal than pick holes in Donnarumma who had a great game on the whole.

He could well be one of the most important signings we've ever made. You don't win anything without a world class goalkeeper and we now have, most probably, the world's best.
