Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Tbh what I mean is that we should never be in a position that a club as big as us should never be in a position to have no striker on the pitch . When you invite pressure with no outlet in the end you get caught out as we have done it many times before .
So, that whole “false nine” tactic has been a complete folly? Someone should mention it to Messi, who has, in many ways, become the best player the world has ever seen by executing it to a tee!

We had players who could break and score, given the opportunity.

So I take it we created lots of chances after big erl went off .

Hopefully yes as Bernado isn’t getting out of that quicksand so maybe Kovacic can step up.
Get the feeling, with what we saw from Kova after we changed the system 2nd half last season and just generally speaking how the new system plays to his strengths, that he might shock a few of us.

Of course could be wrong.

You’re a bit of a glass 3/4 empty guy, aren’t you, Craig?

After the week we’ve had, a more judicious fan might be more circumspect…assuming you ARE a fan, of course.
You misinterpret my point. I was happy with the approach (maybe a bit extreme at the end with the subs) because i thought we’d get beat if we tried to go toe to toe with them. Was pleasantly surprised to see Pep adopt our style. You’d have to be a bit deluded though if you think Pep would play that way if he thought we were on Arsenal or Liverpool level as a team.

You’re talking shite(shocker). We took off the 2 players that could break and especially the main one in Haaland

We didn’t have lots of chances while he was on the field, if you want to be pedantic or argumentative.

Lest you missed it, we were already in a 5-4-1 before he went off.

I’ll let that go.

Because it was clear as day that we were under the kosh, Erling was hurting, they were starting to pummel us, and we needed more defensive reinforcements as they added more and more attacking threat.

None of that should be news.

So we couldn’t afford to have one forward on the pitch as an outlet, a chance to counter for a 2nd or to hold the ball up and someone who the week before cleared more set pieces then the centre halves?

Doku went upfront after Erling and then Savinho. He wasn’t playing in midfield (hardly known for his defensive work) and offered fuck all as a presence.

Shock? He is our 2nd best midfielder. He already shocked us last season even though many here are too arrogant to realize and accept that he carried our whole midfield last season

I wouldn’t go that far, I think he was largely disappointing until last season and isn’t on the level we have become accustomed to over the years. I also think he likely would have been sold if not for the injury.

Let’s just see how he does when he comes back.

The club rejected a bid for him + he was the first one they wanted to keep from the former „ unc“ squad

To be fair Savinho is the furthest thing from a defensive reinforcement...

No one can ignore that we had only 2 days between games and traveled while Arsenal had 4. Not an excuse, just a statement of fact. We'll see once Cherki, and Marmoush come back and we get really comfortable with Donnarumma in goal who is on whose level come Spring...just sayin'...
