ID cards.

Reform Govt will introduce them otherwise the police will be stymied when they stop people in the streets or at checkpoints and demand to see your papers.

State spending will go through the roof to pay for it all :)

No. They have our addresses, phone numbers, social security number, national insurance numbers, our Internet traffic, cctv footage of us all, drivers details, car we drive, when we buy things, where we go.

The scared populace of this country, the ones who fear crime or immigration, or just don't like people being different, will agree and want the govn having control of us all and everything, just so they can feel safe.

So it will happen, and I feel privileged to have lived during a time when we werent watched and accounted for as much, because its obvious to me over the years we are slipping into being numbers that can be tracked and traced.

Give ANY govn a chance and they will want full control over the population.

No problem with an ID card at all, tell you what, lump it together with a drivers licence, NI number and even a gym or NT membership if you like. We're all on record multiple times, this would be nothing new.

<edit>unless reform want it then fuck off not having one

Not a problem with it. What are they really going to find out about me? I like City, pizza and wanking. Nothing to hide, nothing to worry about

Agree, but I suspect they want us all to have the same type, readable by a bespoke scanner.

Why are people are so against this?
I suspect people don't want to have to have it on them at all times or be fined by an authority figure who has the right to see it.

From a crime point of of view I'd accept it as it would save my company millions in wasted chasing of piss takers.

I cant go a week without losing my bankcard. If I have to carry an ID card around with me everywhere I go I'll be fucked.

FWIW I have a national identity card. And have no problems with that. But why would you want people to carry them around unless your going to start checking people on the street.

Don't see the problem in them. Had one for over 20 years when living in different countries. lot less hassle than carrying a passport around, and will make it harder to commit fraud and work illegally. Strange how virtually all of Europe has them with no problem but the uk has issues with them.

Because who scans it and what is on it?

We all have other forms of ID. I have medical issues that I don't want other people knowing about. Will it bring up my medical history? What about criminal records? Will it show minor stuff from 30 years ago? Will this hinder people getting jobs?

If someone wants me to prove my identity, I already have a passport and a driving licence. I don't want the government wasting billions of pounds on something that is not needed and is just a further infringement on our privacy.
