The Album Review Club - Week #191 (page 1286) - Harlequin Dream - Boy & Bear

I have struggled to get new music to suit my taste for a few years now.Read an article about the release of Wolf of St Elmore by The Slow Motion Cowboys an Americana band that going by the review sounded right up my street.
Happily it was and an release from 2025 has been getting played non stop throughout the Summer.
It has been a good year for me album wise, some old favourites have released great albums, with Jeff Tweedy got an album out on Friday and a couple of new artists which I have enjoyed but the Slow Motion Cowboys being my favourite of the new artists to me in 2025 hence my pick.
A wee change nominating a new album but hope you enjoy it.

Hope @RobMCFC is feeling better soon.

I don't know this at all, which is always fun. Nine minutes in and I think I'm going to be mighty fine with this; though I don't know if that'll be a universal view !

I see they're in the UK at the moment too, interesting.

I'm tempted to go, ticket is £8 , but im off booze and would be waiting around after work for a few hours. not sure i can be arsed.

Can't get fuck all for £8 these days. And plenty of zero percent decent beers these days. Alternatively Irn Bru at a gig is always a blast. A bargain, imho. And would give you a great basis for a review.

Edit. On the other hand, it IS country pish!

I'd still probably on the hoof it and go, if it was me.

Ok one listen in....Wilco (when they go Americana) vibes, the Jason Isbell boys on here will like it I think, even a bit Townes van Zandt(ish) at times. Nice.

Unless they can't play their instruments live, £8 seems like an absolute steal.

Yeah totally. For London as well.

First half in, i'm liking elements of later Wintersleep in there. Nice to have a very recent album. Goes without saying, the countryness, an unfortunate distraction for me, which I do hope I can overcome.

Yeah hadn't even considered the London element.

Didn't strike me immediately as a comparison but I get what you mean, it's generally slower tempo and the dynamics are more low key but there's a certain 'feel' or mood to it that is quite similar.

Hi all. Feeling a bit rough today so I’ve just popped on to say that I wont be doing an update, and I’m away at the weekend so that will probably be next week.

Thanks for listening to The Smithereens.

@bennyboy feel free to post when ready.
Feel better Rob!! Think you’ll enjoy this week’s pick.

Yea hance my focus on 'later' Wintersleep. Which in fairness does have a hint of 'Americana' to it, to a degree I seem to handle ok. Although they insist on calling it 'Canadiana', I think.

Bloody hell, BH can afford to drink in Clerkenwell. That ticket might be the cheapest thing he buys tonight ;-)

Doubt they are the kind of place that do Bucky on tap. He'll be on the san pellegrino pomegranate.

Something really exciting about impromptu gigs though. I'm all for it.
