Huddersfield Town (A) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

Am I in the minority thinking Bobb gets away with some very average performances. For me he's behind Doku and Savinho. Very poor last night imo.
No youre not. Oscar has some promise but hes basically trading off one goal at Newcastle. Hes a yard too slow pace wise, and from what weve seen so far doesnt have the same ability on the ball that Palmer has to get away with that. The reputation Oscar carries amongst some of our fans doesnt match his product on the field atm.

I wouldnt say hes behind Savinho though. Jeremy has produced 3 really good performances in his last 3 games, but previously hes been a 1 good game in 7 merchant over his City career - our wingers now compared to what we used to have in Sane, Sterling and Mahrez (who all bagged plenty of goals every season) are one of the reasons weve dropped off.

Foden looked sharp, I hope he stays fit because he is world class. It's a shame we don't have any top level winger that can create from wide.

Bobb seems to be holding onto the ball too long but was giving their defenders a torrid time particularly in the first half. I think that he has massive potential and is definitely worth persevering with. I think he would be better as an AM than a winger though as he showed in his last season with the EDS.

Might just be taking a long time mentally to get over his pretty bad injuries. We’re all different

Savinho goal was strange. He mis-controlled the pass and in a blind panic took a couple of steps and wallied it.

Not got enough bottle for me.
Took a couple of steps and wallied it!!! Brilliant, that's not Pep that's Sunday morning.

I hope he wasn't bollocking him for taking a shot from outside the box which flew over the bar.. and told him he should have played the save pass. We need to shoot more!
I think we need to shoot a lot more, especially from just outside the box. I remember Gundo, Ferna, Kdb always having 2-3 long range shots a game. I dont know if it's because of personnel, but teams sit back against us and there's opportunities for us to shoot, seems strange not to utilize it imo.

“A long time”?

We’re one month into the season and he’s a young lad that almost had his whole career ripped from under his feet due a horrific injury.

Fucking hell, reckon you’d be prime Messi on day one?

Thought Foden was impressive last night, yeah it’s only Huddersfield but he would have taken positives from taking the ball on the half turn and going past a few of their players. The goal was a very good go and go finish too against a team that didn’t want to vacate their 18 yard box.

Bob and Rodri both had horrific injuries last season. The kind that ended careers not too long ago. Its not just physical but also psychological hurdles to leap before they will both can be back to their best.
That’s a bit of an exaggeration with Bobb. He only broke his fibula. Painful and all that, takes a while to get back to full activity, but it’s a bone that can be removed by operation and you can still walk without it.

It will take him some time to get back to his best though.

That's it really. Bobb isn't really a winger in the traditional sense like Savinho and Doku are. He isn't a player that's going to dribble through a defence or beat them for pace (even though he sometimes tries to do that). He's more of a threader of passes through the defence but to do that effectively he needs runners in behind, which isn't something we excel at.

Ultimately he'd be more effective in a David Silva type role, as he was in the academy. Problem is there is a lot of competition in that position.

got home at near midnight last night, and I live in Stockport!

My sat nav took me up int hills and was a nightmare.

Overall? was a dominate performance without goals to show for it.

Phil was very good, few others played well. I took my dad with me to the game, and both said the same thing about Bobb that he's gone off the boil a little, started off great this season but we understand he's still catching up from his injury.

Huddersfield were very dogged, resulting us going back to the same old same old from last season.

our support was great, went quiet a little towards the end of the first half, but thats just down to the game.

Hudds support was w*nk, not sure why they were singing United songs at us, or cheating bastards just made them look silly

Watching Lewis think pep is trying to turn him into a Silva, the way he was playing last night all over the pitch ticking over the passing picking the ball up passing it back receiving the passing it sideways circulating the ball! Did ok

If Haaland could teach Ake how to jump earlier and subsequently get more power and distance into his defensive headers, then maybe Ake could return the favour and teach Haaland how to not jump too early and subsequently be more clinical when heading at goal.

I was trying to be supportive without giving the doubters chance to jump on me. But hey, guess what - you did that all by yourself.

My point exactly although someone didn’t read it like that :-)
