Burnley (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Not sure it's happened against us before, but the stream I watched said it had happened several times in the PL, I think they mentioned about 6 or 7 names.
That was my point - never seen it against us before ever as I recall. Nice of Esteve all the same

Burnley must feel shell shocked after that result ... they're level with City in the 60th minute, find themselves 3-1 down by the 65th minute ..... and then the goal machine that is Erling Haaland completely floors them by adding two more goals !

They must have walked off at the end wonderin' what the hell had hit them in that last half hour ..... mind you it hardly helps your cause when you put through your own net twice!

It was a grim first half watch, but if you come with that kind of game plan where you rely on 90mins plus stamina to chase players and block the passages you have to get it right for every second of every minute. Not many teams can as Burnley found out. That last goal fucked over my OS prediction, mind I had Haaland as first scorer.

Jeremy Doku, absolutely amazing. The performance I hoped he would produce and is now his level. Phenomenal player.

So pleased for Erling and his 2 late goals. A game where he wasn't really involved, not his fault. But when involved his play was top drawer.

Don't like playing with 2 wide men, thought it was our undoing with not enough legs in the middle. Injuries dictated it I guess.

Doku
Nico's
Reijnders
Haaland, all good.

Although saying that, Dona wasn't really tested, apart from their goal.

Amazing to think, if we had held on at Arse, we would be second.
Held on at Arse and BHA, we would be top!

I think we have a lot to say about this title race tbh.

While we are on this good run, a few results in our favour will put pressure on the others.
Hold our nerve over the next few weeks, progress in the carabao and Champions league and we will be well up there with Rodri, Cherki, Kovacic etc back at full fitness.
Pep seems to be prepared to take a chance with the youngsters as opposed to flogging a few of the old players to death.
All looking good.
Bin dippers don’t look anywhere near as good as last season. They have spent fortunes on players and have the problems that come with that plus Salah and Van Dyke are past there sell by date but earning fortunes . Has all the hallmarks of a divided dressing room when things go wrong . Chelsea are miles away from the finished article despite spending billions and Arsenal are Arsenal aren’t they ! an utter embarrassment of a football club and fanbase .
Our new squad and tactics and bedding in nicely, our other pep has brought some new and much needed dynamics to our play , still very early doors and we need to keep our squad fit as rotation will be massive when fighting for trophies on all fronts .
Football you have just got to love it ! ;-)

A slightly weird game; still plenty of improvement to come, but you can’t argue with 5, even if the oppo scored half of them.
Progress is being made. Doku MoM again.
It was,

Burnley were decent apart from the final third.

That's where the big money counts and world class forwards decide a game.

We laboured for long periods but our perseverance paid off.

Strange game. I thought we were ok for the first 20 minutes then not. Much better in second half. Burnley played some decent stuff without posing a huge threat. Kyle still is a class footballer. I need to watch it tomorrow. You miss quite a bit live but the goal we conceded looked a bad one. One of our CBs too slow to respond to the run? I thought we were clunky on the right hand side with Nunes and Savinho not really gelling. Bobb improved things when he came on by stitching that side into the midfield. I thought he made a real difference. Big Erl looked like he was having one of those days. He was frustrated and grumping at those in midfield (they didn’t seem to be listening) and then suddenly he bags two and might have scored with that header. Got to mention Doku though who I have been critical of in the past around his decision making. So nice to be proven wrong this season so far. He was sooooo good. Every aspect of his play. I thought that Nico was neat and tidy and has a nice deceptive turn that he used a few times. He will continue to improve his moving the ball from defenders to attackers.
All in all. We look like what we are. A new team, still finding its way and learning to gell a squad of players into a well oiled footballing machine. Looks like plenty of potential though.
First home game this season. Liked the improvements in the concorse. Easy to get in entrance B as there are no turnstiles. Brickwork on the new hotel looks like Yosser Hughes did it. Good to be back.

Dear doku haters,
get in line before the pie turns cold
I can hold my hands up and say he had all the potential in the world but I thought he'd never have the end product, I remember someone describing his dribbling as someone who was tryna flick a cat off his foot when he was tryna beat his man.

Forgive me if I'm wrong 'ufo' but have you backed Doku whilst he's been consistently wasteful in the final third over the past 18 months
..If you have absolutely fair enough but I don't recall many people on here backing him over the last 18 months.

Far from our best but… 5-1 wow! Hopefully when we click we hand out a few pastings.

Doku Motm… unplayable today. Erling brilliant last 20 mins.

Foden good again and the 2 Nicos were quietly excellent again!

Savio was absolute dog dirt again, Nunes was poor for the goal but was chuffed for him to get his goal.

And I’m still not sure on Judge Reijinders yet. Thought he was poor again. Very anonymous.

But 5-1, I’ll take that!!
Pretty much how I saw it apart from Reijnders, he played some good stuff at times.

Sav and Nunes are a nightmare down that right. No workmate at all.

Glad Nunes scored but jesus, nearly cost us again.

He's filling in but needs to be sold asap.

Burnley's Esteve looked upset at the end after his two own goals, kneeling on the ground and seeming to say a bit of a prayer. Did anyone from City try to console the lad? There were a couple of Chelsea players who offered a kind word to Khusanov after his mistakes early in his first game last season and I thought it'd be the sort of thing Pep might do for Esteve after the match today. Not much Esteve could do about either goal, if he hadn't put in in the net Foden and then Bobb would have.
