Glad we got there in the endThey've got all of mine already though - they can come back to me for anything missing after they can tell me what that is i.e. after they amalgamate and utilise the data they already have

only if you actually believe they'll do that :-)Glad we got there in the end
Are you another of these conspiracy fruit & nuts who thinks were going to be the next Korea :)only if you actually believe they'll do that :-)
Nope, just someone who knows how slowly government IT projects work :-)Are you another of these conspiracy fruit & nuts who thinks were going to be the next Korea :)
My understanding is it will be a digital identity not a physical card. It will bring lots of information together. do you use the NHS app? that's now got loads of information about you on it. If the new app brings all of that together with a push of a button to check my driving licence, NI number, and even my tax codes, why not? Then why do they need this is they have it already. Why spend the billions upon billions? To fix what?
And why do you want it? And why is it important to you that everyone has it?
that data is coming together already. The same picture is used for passport and driving licence. It's HMRC that needs sorting out with a UTR number and password as well as access to Government Gateway with a different log in. All that needs to be streamlined. It's not surprising people are scared of digitisation when it's so cumbersome. They've got all of mine already though - they can come back to me for anything missing after they can tell me what that is i.e. after they amalgamate and utilise the data they already have
You provide your employer with a share code which they can log into. It has your photo and details of your eligibility to work on it.Not heard of the share code system, what is that?
'mental' being the operative word there. Some fantastic conspiracy theories on here as to what the government aims are. Some truly mental gymnastics

In Norway, the population raves about theirs as it also contains blood group as well as the requirement to give the number on it to allow even a doctor's appointment to be made. Surely that's a good thing for anyone who's got a concern about NHS eligibility?
I actually am fairly ambivalent about it, but if people can't see the advantages of having a system that brings lots of information together, then we moan about productivity and waiting lists be it NHS, passports etc then the country will only ever move forward at a snail's pace.
If we accept the principle is a good thing, the detail can be argued later, but as usual we can't even get beyond stage 1/2 without naysayers coming out with stuff that's about stage 20 of the process.
If they want a guinea pig to trial it, I'm all for it.
Giving things a go is great, if someone can convince me there is a legitimate purpose for it, or that it will benefit me.This yesterday today its on-line medical consultations. Its no fucking wonder that the country is in a state - its the 21st century and the nay sayers and scaremongers want us to remain in the mid 20th century - how's about we give things a go? To modernise and get in line with the rest of the world? Owners of JLR products haven't been able to get spares recently due to an IT hack. Is their answer "torch my can and close the factory down"? Is it hell. Would people waiting 2 weeks for an urgent appointment or prefer to get a same day phone consultation? Ah but phone consultations might not come to the correct conclusions. Are all F2F consultations a roaring success aren't they? No - the NHS pays out about £3bn in compensation following botched procedures.
We will never have enough homes because old Mavis down the road always objects to anything being built within a mile of her home. We will never have driverless cars because they might crash and harm someone whereas those driven by a human never have accidents.
Its progress folks - we used to lead the world in new developments in things like transport etc but a lack of will is making us an also ran.
I don't understand your pointThe problem is that if the computer system identifies areas of constraint the very people who are supposed to make it work will simply make sure it does not.
At £50 a pop (might be less) , times the 62 million we have..... awful lot of money. Why don't they actually fix the NHS? I mean that's between 620m and 3 billion they would spend on this.My understanding is it will be a digital identity not a physical card. And the information they have, THEY should bring it together. They don't need ID cards for that. It's federated data that's all.
Sorry,I don't understand your point

Thanks. I get that. Maybe for once, we need to learn frorm those that countries that are already 5 years ahead of us.Sorry,
An existing system that starts to use a sophisticated computer system normally will allow identification of its areas of inefficiency quite quickly.
If areas of management are identified for change then these areas will never be found if those very people are using and controlling change.
The computer is blamed.
I am no longer of working age so if things have changed accept my apologies.
Sleepwalkers. We had a foretaste of how authoritarian our government can be with the COVID fiasco.
Check out how the Chinese have complete control of the population using digital ID. I can't believe how people can be so stupid to want the same thing here
That's literally what they're doing. It's just you'll be able to see the database too. They've got all of that information already. What's stopping them putting it in a single database?
They never claimed it would stop illegal workers, but make it easier to classify themPersonally i dont have an issue with ID cards if they are being used to centralise information to make Government more streamlined and efficient. In many ways it would make things much easier for people.
If for instance it was restricted to basic information currently held by the Government such as.
Name
Date of Birth
NI number
Nationality
Gender (can of fucking worms here)
Home address
Drivers Licience
NHS number.
Passport number
Right to work.
Etc.....
Where I have an issue is if they try linking this directly to bank details (access). Benefits, control of how we choose to spend our money or any automatic deductions such as fines etc..
I think whatever merit there may have been has been pissed away under the guise of it stopping illegal working.
