President Trump

What did China's populism do? Elect Mao and he killed millions of them. Ofcourse now they aren't as idiotic as Mao and make smarter decisions because they don't believe in democracy.. they believe in smart people making the hardest decisions.
I'm sorry, but I have to say your understanding of Chinese history is very poor.

Maybe so but I'm not air brushing Mao's Great Leap Forward killing millions of Chinese.

I'm betting in china they don't tell the truth and still look back favorably on him.

Edit: my point was mostly allowing uneducated/ uninformed people to make decisions with voting being akin to an unskilled worker being asked to do surgery.

You're betting on the idea that "Chinese people don't know the truth about China." However, the reality is far more complex than you might think. If you dislike populism, you should be wary—what you have read could be highly one-sided. In fact, this kind of oversimplification of complex issues is itself a characteristic feature of populism.

That speech to the generals was perhaps the worst ever.
Trump walked in to silence and walked out to the sound of his footsteps. Going on about battleships to the admirals, never heard about what happened to Royal Navy battleships at the hands of the Japanese air force? Or the US Navy in the Pacific? How to destroy any semblance of credibility in a few minutes.

Cue Hegseth to follow with an even worse speech. At the end he was clearly expecting a round of applause. Silence. And only broken by a call to attention as he walked off.
I hope they didn’t salute the ****!

Traditionally the don’t cheer or clap they aren’t supposed to, however even if they could I don’t think they would. Both speeches were fucking mad, Hegseth a tinpot soldier talking down about Milley etc he’s not fit to lace his boots, you can imagine the conversations between the top brass and how they can get the fuck out. He said he didnt want fat generals wanted to go back to the era of Patton and Schwarzkopf sorry but he was a fat fucker.
Trump is unfit for office and I’m hoping these generals saw this and if the worst happens they push back, Kegseth is an alcoholic frat boy who read the news, the guy thinks he’s in a football huddle at college. America is in a very dangerous place now.

No it's not.

He's not the problem.. his voters are the problem and there's a lot of them!

Until we're willing to deal with them.. the problem remains and it's not easy to solve since they love being uneducated and uninformed and just want to outsource thinking to Twitter memes and Fox News.

BTW don't be surprised at this..

What did India's populism do? Elect Modi.

What did South Africa's populism do? Elect Zuma.

What did Hungary's populism do? Elect Orban.

What did England's populism do? Elect Boris and choose Brexit.

Connect the dots.. democracy while it sounds nice.. isn't the perfect solution to solving complex problems especially with uneducated/ uninformed voters who can't critically think and reason and instead get swayed by feelings.
Mao, Xi and Modi, who unlike Orban and Zumba run/ran global powers, were/are impressive individuals who had/have coherent strategic plans for their countries.

My incredulity isn’t directed towards Trump’s nefariousness or his vengefulness, it’s directed at the fact that he’s a fucking moron and he’s running the most powerful nation on earth, and there was plainly no filter preventing that. My disbelief is down to the fact that the US population reelected someone who commands so little respect from any right thinking person. You cannot say that Xi or Modi aren’t worthy of respect, whatever you might think of their politics.

I take your point about Johnson, because he was unquestionably incompetent, but having elected him once there is zero chance of him being re-elected - once bitten. That is the stark contrast with Trump.

So we are looking at this from a wholly different perspective.

I'm not being overly dramatic to say the country has gone. They gave him these powers and he is using them, and then some.
It's basically up to the military if they want to support illegal orders or not.
Whatever happens, it's going to be messy/bloody.

We are watching history being made...

Can you imagine the deep dark conversations that took place between Trump , Musk, Kennedy etc when they come to power. They knew this time around they were ensuring fascism and not letting it slip like last time.

Now the shitgibbon shutdown has started, I'm thinking of opening a book on how long it will last before (a) the democrats fold or (b) it's declared a national emergency and martial law is imposed and the final democratic hurdle falls

Their reaction, or lack of it, is giving hope that they understand the real threat.
Since no direct illegal order has been given yet, they won't react. To act now will serve no purpose, and would actually play into Trump's hands.

Their actual non reaction/applause might even give Trump pause for thought. He knows he cannot do anything without their backing. Threatening the smartest and most well trained people in the country is a fatal move. Their path is clear. Defend the Constitution. What mechanism to achieve that will be the interesting bit.

The best way for every day Americans to put pressure on him is to stop buying from Amazon, stop using Facebook, Instagram etc. and actually use what little power they have to scare the billionaires who can then bring Trump down.

At the moment it seems like they're just accepting it bar a few protests.

"Attack the enemy from within"

"We should use these cities as training grounds..."

He's going to declare martial law and fuck the mid terms.
This is the most frightening aspect of the whole drama. Just bonkers….and illegal per Posse Comitatus. You can’t use troops on US soil to round up Americans.

I don't think the average American knows what to do.
They are caught between trying to be a law abiding citizen with patriotic roots. To knowing they must do something without exposing themselves corrupt agencies loyal to Trump.
The mechanisms that would normally protect them are being systematically being dismantled.

Job security in the US is already non-existent. Add that most family medical care comes from that job. So people are actually afraid to raise their heads above the parapet. Weak or non-existent Unions adds to that insecurity.
Talent in the US doesn't get you the top jobs, arse licking does. So your boss would fire you in an instant if he thought it would benefit him/her.

The vast majority of Trump supporters still think he is doing a great job.
Tackling immigrants from the southern border, fighting crime. And that the tariffs are already making them richer.
Honestly, they believe it. They will never find the truth because they are not looking for the truth. It's only when it smacks them in the face do they realise. Even then, they prefer to blame somebody else.

When Hegseth finished his speech you could here a pin drop. Not one fuckin clap which he seemed shocked by. Trump had noticed this so had to say they must cheer him on, which again failed. Can you imagine what must of gone through those generals heads. Five time draft dodger and a weekend fox news host coming out with utter bollocks.

They have the House, Senate and Presidency. It’s not a case of the Dems having to fold.
