AS Monaco (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Look I'm not going to do my nut because we drew away. We should have won, sure. What I do find lacking, these days and for a long time, is an ability by the team to push really hard and find last minute winners, in the ninetieth minute and beyond. To put an injustice behind them and just say “No, we're winning this”. Arsenal seem to have that ability this year. Liverpool have been virtually living off it.
It's part of the make-up of a trophy winning team, and it's always been part of our titles. We'll see.

Fed up of blaming refs because we weren't able to score enough goals.

We have to try more to get more shots on target. This is the same complaint for years now.
That’s true re shots, but tonight I’m more minded to blame the ref over our own manager.

I’d rank my “blame” for tonight in this order:
1.The ref
2.Their cheating, diving, faking, fouling players
3. Our players (not converting enough chances and a high kick in the box)
4. Our manager (maybe, though I’m not quite sure why)

One thing is sure against defensive teams we need Cherki fit and firing - he offers stuff no other player does and looking at how many times our attacks broke down with Bernie tonight tells me all I need to know. He had so many chances to play a final killer pass but elected to turn away from goal - Haaland must be pissed that the ball never comes in from the right.

Shocking ref. Fell for their antics every time. But let’s be clear the root cause of our problem is we cannot see out a one goal lead. I have little confidence watching the possession game at 1-0 or 2-1 unlike a couple of seasons back when we could see out a game, kill it off.

Need more from reinjders, nico gave away too many fouls when he came on including the one which you knew, esp with that ref, was going to be given as soon as you saw it. Phil very good, O’Reilly very good too, Rodders coming back, great goals from big Erl.

Point not a disaster and performances definitely getting better. I just at a loss as to how we avoid these sucker punches so often.

More concerned about our right winger more than I was last season I’m afraid Bernado adds nothing tidy collection and pass backs make our right side totally ineffective

It's going to sound harsh. But why in 2025 is our right hand side Bernardo Silva and John Stones?

We have no right hand side. Every attack has to be funnelled down the left because there's no output on the other side.

I'm not that arsed about the result. You can draw in this new group stage, but I'm arsed about in us not having a side of the pitch that we can attack down.
Have to agree here.

Bernardo to me feels like he'd be better suited to retaining possession in the middle where he may not necessarily need to be as quick (and even then we have better players at this point)

Having a wide midfielder who barely contributes anything in attack and just slows things down isn't helping us at this point. Put Savinho out there please.

The player that made us drop points was Silva. FK went to him and he put in the weakest cross ever. Last minute counter and he checks back. Awful stuff. It’s not Nico’s fault this con artist gave a FK for a non foul and a penalty for non contact
Few just simply aren’t at the level anymore, Silva Stones to name a few. Wouldn’t say Dias isn’t at the level but he’s been pretty woeful for a year or two now.
