AS Monaco (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

You can’t give players that amount of time and space at this level. Foden’s pathetic attempt at closing him down was just as bad but he is a forward so forgivable.

Our defenders are so slow now. I thought Monaco were wank but they still caused us a few problems due to our complete lack of pace at the back and in midfield. Bernado is like a fucking snail now.
Collectively we must have the slowest defence in the champions league?

Generally for me, the fitness of the team hasn’t been right for a few seasons, too many games we completely run out of steam.

Add to that the bench is poor, I’m praying we are two up with 20 to go, as a buffer.

Two points thrown away here whatever way anybody wants to paint it differently.
Apparently Monaco had eight players missing through injury, I'm not sure if that is actually true. What is true is that so far everyone has been spanking them with ease.

A weird performance from us. We go a goal up then concede almost straight away by totally switching off. Great strike but the bloke was under no pressure whatsoever. Haaland then restored the lead with a great header and we thought we'd bang a few more in but sadly it didn't happen.
Mainly we totally controlled the game, hit the woodwork twice but always looked a nervous wreck everytime they crossed the halfway line. The longer it stayed at 2-1 everybody just knew they would equalise.
A few players still off it and giving the ball away needlessly.
The referee needs investigating. This is supposed to be Europe's premier competition but while we get officials like that it never will be.
Some signs of improvement but still lots of work to do on the training ground.

I didn’t think he came across as a leader at all. Thought he was a bit of a nob.
I don’t just mean off that. He’s becoming a leader of this team when you watch the city socials stuff. That interview though, he’s laying it down.

I honestly dont understand what a defender is meant to do when a player comes in from behind them and stoops to head the ball.

Just leave it on the off chance?

It's a bollocks rule......how about not endangering yourself when your opponent doesn't have eyes in the back of his head.

Pep fucked up in the second half, his decision making is getting more and more bizarre.
He had to take Rodri off, we need him at the weekend, and he was on a booking, and I'm sure one foot out of place he would have got a second yellow. Doku should have finished the game, as he was defending, something Savinho hasn't a clue about, and more worryingly isn't learning about.

The subs weren't the issue, it was City's, not killing the game off, not going for it.

I thought we played absolutely shite to be fair.

Shit decision by the referee or not, the passing and decision making was League Two standard.
You’re joking right? We were passing them off the park up until the penalty. We should’ve had at least 3 with 2 hitting the crossbar. The passing was amazing tonight, we had them chasing shadows, the penalty given was the biggest joke.

No fullbacks = easy to score against.

No point moaning about the ref or VAR because City was poor tonight, let's get it right Monaco are not one of the best teams in Europe and we looked weak at the back and a fullback, very sloppy and we didn't take the game by the neck and score enough, it was all too nice.

A point is OK, but we are not going to win this year's Champions League unless if we can get into the knockouts then when the winter transfer window opens, sign some fullbacks.

Why does Pep make it hard for himself by not buying enough fullbacks ? The sqaud is full of midfield players wide players and 5 centre-backs 4 keepers and one striker ? No balance at all
I must have dreamt that we bought Ait-Nouri.

a decent team wouldve scored more against us tonight

Im in two minds about it as I argued a lot with United fans at work that Nani’s red back in the day was justified! If you put your leg that high and don’t know where your opponent is and whether it’s safe or not, you’re always asking for trouble.
In real time I said penalty, and i thought could have been red.

But watching VAR, it felt like that's the reason you have VAR. Dier has pulled him back, gone low with his head, Nico gets the ball first.

Was Oscar bobb on the bench tonight? If so then that's criminal from pep to leave bernardo on and then choose savinho first.

I thought we controlled that completely, just the same old issue for us, the soft underbelly.
Does that translate to bent fuckin ref?
Why did they get a free kick before the penalty incident when the the replays show no foul
