AS Monaco (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

It's not a bad point away, it's Europe etc. I'm still not decided on the penalty. But Monaco are pretty average, which is taking some of the shine away.

Either way, haaland keeps scoring and Foden is performing. Reijnders is going to be dropped as soon as Cherki is fit, at this rate. I thought Gonzalez was a bit average.

It wasn't a bad night, fine for away in Europe, it's just last minute equalisers knock the stuffing out of you a bit.

Well said Erling. He’s either calling out his teammates or he’s calling out the tactics - either way, he’s right and I’m glad it’s been said.

Shades of last season where we couldn’t cope with athletic, aggressive midfield. They fully deserved their equaliser despite the actual pen being a bit dubious. No nous from us in that final 10, it was clear the third goal from us just wasn’t coming so why not just keep ball at their end, win some fouls (as a certain Grealish was so good at doing) and burn the clock. Instead we played into their hands making the game open.
When Ait-Nouri is back I’d love to see O’Reilly in midfield - would add some sorely missing backbone. Rodders a long way from his best and maybe we won’t see it til next season.

lol you can’t call football “soccer” on an English forum and think you’ll get away with it mate
Fair enough. I'm unapologetically American in that regard. I use both words interchangeably unfortunately:p

Our game finished earlier so flipped over to the City match. Just saw replay of the pen. What the actual fuck? How has VAR given that? Not in a million years is that a penalty.
If you think thats bad, check out the free kick that led to the penalty. Absolute fucking cheating at its most obvious. City really need to start reporting these refs and kicking up a stink. Corrupt bastards!

He can for the way we play when we're in front, we just don't push on hard enough, lets not forget we've just drawn to a pretty poor side, they lost 4-1 to Club Bruge last time out.

Only 2 players for me tried to push for the win NOR and Phil.
Yes but they were away to Club Brugge.

Home and Away games do matter, Liverpool lost last night to Galatasaray, who lost 5-1 to Frankfurt who in turn lost 5-1 to Atletico.

I think we created plenty of chances to win tonight, at least 5 or 6 clear cut chances.

I think some of the subs were with Brentford in mind and the team that finished the game were a crossbar away from seeing it out.

I could criticise the finishing tonight but not much else.

One full back ?? Where is the cover ? Why does somebody from the EDS or youth team not get given a chance

Playing somebody as cover is not the answer ? ok, We had Walker's pace on the right to get us out of the shit on the breaks and also cover the centre backs, but now we have nobody that can defend or smell the danger
You said we hadn’t bought any fullbacks. Though I agree we need more.

He was one of our better players. Rodri looks injured. Just rest him.
I’m not prepared to go that far in agreeing with you, not after factoring in his penalty challenge.
If Rodri was injured I’d rather have seen someone like Ake in the box making that challenge (or him leaving it to Gvardiol).

In soccer, a raised foot near the head is a foul called "playing in a dangerous manner" or, more colloquially, a "high boot". A referee can call this foul even if no contact is made, as the action itself is a threat to a player's safety.

For those confused by the rules
For the benefit of doubt it wasn’t a free kick that led to the penalty!

best striker in world football surrounded by pub players like Nico.

Anybody thinking it wasn’t a pen hasn’t watched any CL football recently.

Make no mistake that Monaco outifit is shite. Embarrassing that we take a point
If we are such shit and play players like Nico, why are you filled with so much disappointment. If we are such shit then maybe we shouldn’t so easily beat a shit team like Monaco right? Your logic seems a bit flawed, no?

Lets be honest, a RB, CB replacement for Dias, replacement LW and RW ( although Doku has had a few good games of late), a pacy strong box to box midfielder and a good 2nd striker option off the bench or at times to go 2 up front, are the bare minimum we need to be challenging again.
At this moment we are in a top 4 race and may automatically qualify for the knock out rounds in the CL but we wont go much further.
