Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

How many points up are we now against the exact same matches last season. I’d imagine well over 9.

Absolute dogshit performance 2nd half after a very decent first half. Worked for us today but we won't win enough football games over the season playing like that, have to change this cautious approach when we get ahead and try and get ourselves out of sight.

They are crap, beating united last week doesn't disguise that, that should have been a lot more comfortable. Take the valuable 3 points, move on and hope we don't make the second half a regular occurrence.
The strongest conclusion you can draw after watching that is what an appalling side United are to be getting turned over 3-1 by Brentford.

Hope that’s just still CWC hangover and we’re still short of fitness cos that was a pathetic second half performance.

But 3 pts at a tight ground so far this season.

Fitness seems to be a problem, we drop off massively half way through the second half regularly.

Although this season we have been defending way better than last when we are up against it, they didn't really create much but it's always a concern when there is only one goal in it.
Pretty much as it was last season-we need to get more players fit so that we can cope.

Good first half, Ugly 2nd half
Big 3 points away to Brentford, who are probably the best home team from outside the top 4 teams

Rodri's injury could be a major blow, but fortunately it's the international break and maybe it was just a minor pull that will heal nicely in two weeks.

Really good first half - controlled play, created openings and should have been a couple up.

Second half was just awful to watch. All the players just made simple errors or picked the wrong options. Pep keeping it as it was until the 76th minute was poor - as was keeping on Savinho, who had no joy against the FB or with the ref. They didn't create much (without our help) but that was just poor. Glad we have become a bit better than last year at battling to results when not playing well.

We can criticise the second half performance, but I would labour the fact that having played Brighton away, Arsenal away, United and Spurs in the first 7 games... only being 3 points off top is a position I would have taken at the start of the season.

Since Donnarumma arrived...
7 games unbeaten in all competitions
And we've conceded 4 goals in those 7 games (and one was a bullshit penalty)

Despite all the hysterical bleating about our "defensive frailty", since August we've got literally the best defensive record in the Premier League.

We are a different prospect to last season, and although we're a way off knowing if we can go for a title run again, I think we've made as good a start as any City team would in recent years given the fixtures we've played. The test is if we can play consistently at this level all season. If we do ,then we'll be there or thereabouts.
So true, I remember the lunatics moaning on here, despite us signing THE best keeper in the world.

These types of performances are not sustainable. Pep has to change the attacking patterns, it can't just be pass side to side until a gap appears, we're more likely to concede a counter than find an opening playing that way.

Tijjani is not offering anything that will make us better in the final third he has the same 'recycle' mentality.

And if Rodri is out for lengthy periods we will suffer because Nico G isn't half the player.

Yep. I'm not sure what your point is. I'm happy we won. The 3pts is great. We play like that against better quality and we'll struggle. My point being we play much better with Rodri
He played 20 minutes, we played great for 20 minutes when he went off. No Rodri, No party sounds like we fucked it up. Not many teams win at Brentford and Rodri isn't going to be around forever.

Donnarumma made one save by the way and that was early 2nd half.

Excellent first half. Ok second half. I don't mind us having to win scrappy at this point of the season, we just needed to win. You'd like to kill the game in the first 30, that's the next big step for us.

I hope Rodri is just a caution, he looked ok coming on to the pitch.

Compared to the treble winners a performance that was distinctly average.

But a team in transition with the Balon D Or winner taken off after 20 mins away against the new Stoke City

Grounds for optimism perhaps

I'm going to have to be the one to remind you that Brentford beat the treble winning team home and away, so your statement is not true.
