Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

We can criticise the second half performance, but I would labour the fact that having played Brighton away, Arsenal away, United and Spurs in the first 7 games... only being 3 points off top is a position I would have taken at the start of the season.

Since Donnarumma arrived...
7 games unbeaten in all competitions
And we've conceded 4 goals in those 7 games (and one was a bullshit penalty)

Despite all the hysterical bleating about our "defensive frailty", since August we've got literally the best defensive record in the Premier League.

We are a different prospect to last season, and although we're a way off knowing if we can go for a title run again, I think we've made as good a start as any City team would in recent years given the fixtures we've played. The test is if we can play consistently at this level all season. If we do ,then we'll be there or thereabouts.
Cannot believe you included united in there.

Are towels allowed for throw ins? Also the linos need to get those position for throw ins right, teams are skipping yards and yards for them ! Rodris injury is a concern and amazing first half. Not going to shit on the team we did well overall and got the team.

I think the guys were mentally hit by Rodri going off. They'll bounce back and get used to not having him out there. But that was woeful and we would have lost that game against a better team.
Yeah I noticed that, their shoulders literally dropped.

Good to see how hard the players were willing to fight for the three points. I think every one of them put a real shift in.

Rodri going off is obviously a big concern again, he's the metronome for us and we miss him each time.

But we're in a great position now considering the incomings and injuries.

Too see some of the comments on here you would think we were in a relegation battle!? Yes a very mixed performance and yes we need to improve. But we won... HELLO!! Aside of the Arse - who will bottle it at some stage, every team is showing inconsistent form at the moment; Dipper's and Palace both lost this weekend, there are teams around us who you know will not stay the course - Bournemouth and Spuds being 2 of them. Brighton also drew. Barcode's ain't in the race, nor are Villa this year. So were are definitely still finding our feet and there is room for improvement but please do get some proper perspective!

That was....fun.

3 points from an away game, 5th, 3 behind Arse. Move on.

I’m just watching the first half…

Had we got a second goal the second half would have been much more comfortable and enjoyable rather than excruciating!
Although we were disjointed in the second half, they didn't create anything outside of the one on one at the start of the second half. (Which I’m convinced was a foul on Gvardiol. It’s a tip tackle. Shithouse of a challenge)

We defended the long throws really well, we just didn’t pass the ball well.

I can handle George Grahaming our way to another title!

3 points, and that is about all you can say about it.

We'd have lost last year though.

For all the plaudits we were getting at half time, we weren't doing enough to get a second goal, and lets be honest Brentford could never play that badly for another half, a bit of a press and we couldn't play 5 yard passes.

Same here, the way this team played against Arsenal gave me signals that things are not actually that good. Pep would walk the league with current Arsenal team or id say even with Liverpool.
I love him as a manager and more importantly I love him as a person, but looking objectively this is the worst squad he's been managing since Barca B and his worst managerial performance.
I just cannot see which direction we are moving to, forward definitely it is not.

He played 20 minutes, we played great for 20 minutes when he went off. No Rodri, No party sounds like we fucked it up. Not many teams win at Brentford and Rodri isn't going to be around forever.

Donnarumma made one save by the way and that was early 2nd half.
We didn't. We stopped playing about 10 mins after he left and never got control from that point on. Brentford are poor this year. We are better defensively and the goalie is very good. Youre entitled to disagree. At the moment you aren't convincing me that my No Rodri no party comment isn't accurate.
