Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

We didn't. We stopped playing about 10 mins after he left and never got control from that point on. Brentford are poor this year. We are better defensively and the goalie is very good. Youre entitled to disagree. At the moment you aren't convincing me that my No Rodri no party comment isn't accurate.
It's not accurate as we won the game and kept a clean sheet, Brentford had one shot on goal in 75 minutes of Rodri leaving the field. Lol

the "tail of two halves" which is happening on a regular basis could be because most teams sit off us in the first part of games. once hey start pressing we start to struggle...our back four isnt as comfortable as they once were playing the ball through the midfield or by being pressed and the midfield isnt as good as receiving it under pressure....the wide players are particularly poor in keeping the ball or adding any threat .....

teams work this out and then start to press and our game goes to shit..Arsenal did it from the start of the game and we spent 90% of that game defending. Other better teams wil do the same...This run we are on in the league is against no one of any consequence with the exception of Arsenal.

We've won against Brentford, Burnely and Utd and drawn against Arsenal since losing to Spurs and Brigthon (as well as beating Huddersfield in the cup) - none of those teams are going to affect the top 5-6 of the league or anywhere near it (with the exception of Arsenal)....Monaco are average and caused us numerous problems and Napoli were down to 10 men for most of the game.

we are nowhere near still at present despite a few decent results. .....even the 5-1 vs Burnley flatted us a bit

We can criticise the second half performance, but I would labour the fact that having played Brighton away, Arsenal away, United and Spurs in the first 7 games... only being 3 points off top is a position I would have taken at the start of the season.

Since Donnarumma arrived...
7 games unbeaten in all competitions
And we've conceded 4 goals in those 7 games (and one was a bullshit penalty)

Despite all the hysterical bleating about our "defensive frailty", since August we've got literally the best defensive record in the Premier League.

We are a different prospect to last season, and although we're a way off knowing if we can go for a title run again, I think we've made as good a start as any City team would in recent years given the fixtures we've played. The test is if we can play consistently at this level all season. If we do ,then we'll be there or thereabouts.
Spurs, Newcastle and Palace have conceded fewer goals…

We were awful. The result should not disguise that fact.

Haaland was good to be fair but our playing style is as bad as ever. Possession without threat 1st half.
Did you watch the first half.?There keeper made a blinding save, Foden missed a good chance and we were in but couldn't quite finish a couple more times.
Second half wasn't great but apart from Gvardiols missed header they didn't threaten, though part of it was probably their lack of creativity.

I thought that’s the best I’ve seen us move the ball in a while first half, but this trend of gassing out on 50 mins is diabolical for a top prem team!

It really needs addressing.

The Rodri situation is infuriating, because we haven’t done anything to have a replacement or proper stand in, and the club must have been advised he could struggle with secondary issues after a long time out.

Not sure what to make of being 3 points off the top at times we look like we are fantastic then the complete opposite it’s utterly baffling, must be a mentality thing with a number of these players..

If the dippers or the tarquins put in that performance and get the same result with the same amount of injuries it would be lauded as them having a great mentality and team spirit and the mark of a good team by winning without playing well. We' ll just get called crap mostly by our 'fans' and the media.

And no im not a happy clapper i realise there is plenty of room for improvement, just giving context.

Rodri is basically worth two players in midfield, take him away and it’s a different team. O Reilly and Nunes gave us some much needed muscle to support our diddy men midfielders.
A wins a win and I still see this as a transition season. Haaland is the man.
