International Break: How are we doing?

Silva and Hazard are clearly the most gifted, consistent and best players in the league,Sanchez is top class but would you swap him for Kun because i certainly wouldn't of course it's all about opinions but Sanchez isn't the best in the league in my eyes and i've been watching City since 69 and i never thought i'd see anyone better than king Colin but David Silva now has the mantle of Citys greatest ever player.

I know you think my criticisms are at best misplaced and disingenuous but that is because you aren't remotely objective about Pellegrini. The difference between you and me is that even though I desperately wanted Mancini gone, it doesn't mean that I feel the need to ignore any failings in Mancini's replacement to in some way justify the position I held on Mancini. It is blatantly obvious that you do.

I stopped reading there primarily because that's once again a lazy and disingenuous characterisation. I frankly could care less what anyone on Bluemoon thinks of me and as such I post my own opinion uncensored and without the need to "justify" previously held opinions. I can also speak from experience when I say that it's very easy when you have a bad downer on a manager to lose sight of what's real and objective and mistake it for your own biased and often misplaced emotional opinion.

Will never happen, any sides actually likely to lose key players (eg Everton) would be screaming blue murder and justifiably so.
It was so much better when they would just have an international match in midweek then return straight to club football at the weekend. No need to have to watch boring shite for two weeks just because average cunts like Hodgson want longer to train bad habits into highly paid players.

Agree but UEFA/FIFA wanted the higher grossing weekend slots for the bigger international fixtures, can't see it changing back anytime soon.

But that's the point, I don't have a "bad downer" on him, I can just see some failings in there. Admittedly I wouldn't have been unhappy to see him go after Burnley away last season but I wasn't outraged by him staying or anything and I am by and large happy with him still being in charge and how he is performing. I actually like to think I have a fairly balanced view on him. Now Mancini I had a bad downer on and I was at a stage where I could see no good in anything he did, same with Keegan for his last year or two. The fact that because there is one aspect of Pellegrini's management that I have an issue with leads you to believe that I have this unobjective bad downer on him tells me all I need to know. I wish you wouldn't project this on to my posts though, you've done it a couple of times now.

Fuck me get a room you two
And I'll stick my oar in here and say why am I not surprised to see BillyShears having handbags with yet another poster!!
It happens too often to be just one a one off in my opinion.
And in reply to the original question......8 games in and 2 points clear at the top without us kicking into 1st gear and new signings not bedded in yet can only be encouraging.

Just picking up on the OP.

hat may be in our favour this season is that English teams may not win their groups which opens the possibility of more teams we could face if we finish second. In previous seasons we've had limited choices but surely we deserve a slightly kinder draw for once?!
I admire your optimism, but...........

In the early hours of Friday morning both Argentina and Brazil will be in action and City’s Argentinian quartet of Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta, Nicolas Otamendi and Martin Demichelis have been included in the La Albiceleste's games against Ecuador and Paraguay.

The first game will be in Buenos Aires against the Ecuadorians and the second game will be away to Paraguay in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Brazil, featuring Fernandinho, face a difficult start with an away trip to Chile on Friday and then a home game with Venezuela on Wednesday.

David Silva’s Spain need just a point to confirm qualification for Euro 2016 – and they should get it at home to Luxembourg in what will be La Roja’s 150th Uefa European Championship match.

In the unlikely even they slip up, they can try and secure the result needed away to Ukraine next week – Silva is likely to feature in both games and will reach 95 caps for his country if he does.

Aleksandar Kolarov’s Serbia cannot progress from their group but their trip to face Albania is bound to be under intense scrutiny this Thursday following the disgraceful scenes in the first meeting between these two countries.

In that game, Kolarov was one of the heroes of the night – though not for football reasons – as he sought to calm down an explosive situation that saw a drone fly over the stadium carrying a flag that ultimately caused chaotic scenes.

Albanian players were attacked by Serbian fans and eventually the players ran for the safety of the dressing room, but it was Kolarov who ensured several Albanians made it safely back, forming a protective shield as missiles rained down towards the tunnel.

...International departures...

Euro 2016 hosts France play Armenia in a friendly on the same night with Bacary Sagna and Eliaquim Mangala in the squad and then travel to Denmark next week for another game with nothing other than pride at stake. Wilfried Bony has been included in Ivory Coast's squad with friendly opposition as yet to be confirmed.

Kevin De Bruyne, Vincent Kompany and Jason Denayer should all be celebrating Belgium’s qualification to Euro 16 when they return from international duty.

The Red Devils will almost certainly seal at least second spot in their group if they beat Andorra on Saturday. One win from either that game or at home to Israel next week will ensure progress to the finals – Kompany could feature against the Israelis if he has recovered from a calf strain.

Finally, Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling could add to their collection of caps in England’s remaining two group games. With Roy Hodgson’s side already group winners, the games against Estonia and Lithuania aren’t quite as crucial as they might have been, but the Three Lions will want to continue their 100% record and should achieve their goal.

so it looks like Yaya and young Nacho will stay at home with Navas, Nasri, Fernando, Caballero and the injured Clichy and Delph.
(Edin and Jovetic aren't mentioned these days except on loan watch I see)

Old thread but relevent at this moment in time.

We could actually be top of the table despite playing bang average football.

This is about the only time I have welcomed an International Break, might be able to get some of our invalid's back.

Weird pre season, weird start to the season. We have shown flashes of a potentially great new side, but then quite a lot of average stuff. I don’t think we are anywhere near fit enough. But we sit well in the table which bodes well if and when it all clicks

without that last gasp brain fade at Arsenal we'd be second now - a point behind the dippers.

It was weird because we had no pre season. It's no coincidence that results and performances are getting better the fitter we get. Although second half yesterday we were poor.
