14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

As a back up DM he's fine, I dont see him being a regular starter for a top-team. His qualities are more suited for #8. Doesn't have the presence or passing range, he needs to play in a double pivot. Stones is a better DM than him.
Fact is Porto paid 8 mill for him then we in all our wisdom paid 50 mill, for a backup player who is nowhere near the Spanish squad, in fact he's probably never going to get in the Spain squad anytime in the future.

Remember Stones performance vs Inter?or more recently Stones vs R'Madrid at home last season, Nico is not on that level yet, not saying he can't get there.

Stones didn't play DM vs Inter, as Rodri played that role, and we were poor in defence vs Real (thought Stones was good in possession in that game, but a bit poor out of possession).

Imo, if Gonzalez could play next to Rodri, he would look really good. Guess Pep will try that combo at some point.

Really want to see what a Rodri + Nico Pivot would look like. Stones inverted into DM vs Inter, then pushed ahead of Rodri at times into an #8, or am i mistaken? Outstanding performance nonetheless.

He's only 23 right? He has plenty time to try, I would have preferred a ready made elite midfielder that came in and raises the team ceiling straight away.

Stones is/was an elite CH. He can put in an occasional shift but he's not anywhere that level at DM or RB...

He's a solid player but he just can't play the passes to break the lines, I'm not asking him to be as good as Rodri because no one is but he should improve that aspect of his game, hopefully with more minutes he will.
His passing is really decent, I would say he's made a better start to his City career that Rodri did in his first season. He still only 23 he will learn and get better.

Had a tough afternoon but he battled through it, just needs to sharpen up his decision making and stop taking one touch too many in his own half. He's getting there, by the end of the season he'll be top imo.
thats a city thing though ? watchig tv i end up saying pass it pass it what you waiting for as players close space down now the majority of passes eventually open the spaces up. but hes not alone and think part of over all game plan
frustrating yes more so like against brentford first half they stood off we looked amazing but second half they stepped up a yard were quicker in closing and we couldnt stop them

His passing range is very poor for an 8. He may be an 8 in the Portuguese league, but not here
Yup. He only plays short passes. Barely seen him ever doing a long pass. Don’t know she what others see in him

For us I see him as tweener not quite good enough for either position. Hope he shoves it down my throat this season.
