President Trump

I won’t be voting for reform, but they’ve got hell of a lot more chance of getting in than mere protest votes. They’re dominating the polls and wiped the floor with the other parties in the council elections earlier this year.
Yep - hence my fear. I'm amazed that so many are writing them off so readily

Here’s a selection of his electoral promises. Judge for yourself if he is “doing what he said he would”
Trump promised:
To end inflation and reduce prices.
Settle the Russian-Ukraine war
Settle the Israel- Palestine war.
Ignore Project 2025.
Release the Epstein files.
Drill, baby, Drill.
Drain the swamp of DC.
Expel undocumented criminal immigrants.
Make America Great Again.
Bring manufacturing back to America.
No tax on tips
No tax on social security
Close the Southern border.
Produce a plan to increase gov efficiency and save 2trillion dollars.
Close the Education dept.
Pay for IVF
End DEI programs.

All fair points. I just can't help thinking this is all too literal, though, and, in the minds of his supporters, he is doing exactly what he said he would, grosso modo.

Maybe grosso modo is doing some heavy lifting here :)

But if his support holds up then it's up to the Democrats to regain some of the votes they lost in 2024 (and just to be clear I don't mean individual democrats, I mean the Democrat party). That may be a big "if", but if it happens I am just not sure the Democrats (again, the party not individual democrats) are up to it ....

Anyway, an interesting couple of years coming up.

I think those who wanted these policies have been taken aback by the methods used and the effects of the policies in action. For example, people wanted undocumented immigrants expelled but the harshness of the methods are not liked and the lack of labour in the agricultural sector has disarmed them.
Under the US system the opposition is at a disadvantage: there is no figure who is the official opposition to the President/White House, and the ranking members of the House and the Senate have little public sway. On top of that, the media is largely owned by republicans. The dems need to work a lot harder and with more unity to win at the midterms and beyond.

I'm not sure 'interesting' is aword I'd use for it.

That's fair enough. I am just far enough removed from all this nonsense to look at it in a way that, I think, is dispassionate. I know what you will say, Trump's idiocy will affect everyone, but I think I am comfortably protected and the kids are looked after.

Anyway, of course I get that other people are more invested in this and I don't criticise them for it. Completely understand it.

If Trump goes full on dictator what does the rest of the world do? If he gets away with it in his own country say he marches into Greenland will Europe stand up to them? If they don’t then his ego will no doubt fancy taking something else, maybe storm into Mexico to finish off the cartels! Then Venezuela fir their resources, they certainly gave the military to do all this.

Well, first of all, you came here and told us ALL the thread should be renamed TDS something — so can that “insult” shit; what do you think that post was?!? A well-reasoned opinion? About what?

There is no “debate” anyhow — you haven’t offered an opinion to debate about other than love and tolerance are good things. Gee, thanks for the deep insight.

You — then and now — are welcome to post whatever positive about Trump you like. Feel free.

My guess you are smart enough to realiz(s)e he’s a frightening disaster, too much of a coward to admit you were wrong, don’t have enough introspective ability to change your perspective or actions now that “conservatism” has been co-opted by this human nightmare, and too dumb to debate it.

I could be wrong. Haven’t been very often though.
Good post!

Weather he does or not i never said he did, those are my values.
Get over him.
So pretty much vote for someone whose agenda supports your own - no matter what. Democracy, ethics, morality don't matter to you at all - it's all about getting your way no matter what. In other words, a dictator aligned with your values is perfect.

And we're supposed to "Get over him."

No, just go and vote for what you believe in.

No, just go and vote for what you believe in.
And when that vote is nullified because of "voter fraud" or whatever other excuse Trump comes up with... what then?

I reject your argument. You believe in fascism - and if votes don't go your way in 2026 - as I believe they won't - you'll back whatever argument/means Trump employs to nullify a free and fair election.
