Not one but two completely useless trademarks!

Good lord. I am starting to think Pep has a way of looking into the future, some how he knew this weirdo was going to become a "me first" type of player. Good thing we moved him on.

Cold Palmer? Fuck

Trademark and Copyright are different things.

Trademarks are things like logos, slogans etc. that define a “brand”. Copyright is specifically for creative works like books and films etc.

So he can’t trademark his celebration in the strict sense. He can trademark a specific physical media for his celebration - like a picture of him doing it.

It would stop people making fakes or knock-off versions to sell t-shirts with his picture on and stuff like that - it’s not going to stop people from mocking him using his own celebration in a match.

This is going to unleash a torrent of rag players doing the same. It's just the sort of tasteless, trashy, plastic thing they will copy.

It's the next phase in the Americanisation of our national sport, but we can't say we weren't warned.

Players have already been registering trademarks for a while now - pretty much since “CR7” became a thing.

Haaland has one - it’s just his name so not quite as cringe-inducing as trademarking a picture of your celebration or “Cold Palmer” but still:

Loads of other players have them - Bellingham has trademarked his name in the UK too. Palmer isn’t the first.

Not quite the correct spelling of eclectic, but good enough for the BBC I suppose.

These people pay people to look after their financial interests and maximise their earnings.

I highly doubt it was something he came up with. Or quite possibly even had any knowledge of.

Either that or he thinks he's in the Erling class of players and done it to cash in?

All I've seen him do this season's is stand on the touchline wearing an oversized hoodie covering his head which says "look at me", trying to get selfies with various opposition players at full time.

Maybe he thinks he'll need the extra cash as rainy day money if he finds himself down to his last 5 mil ? Mind he'll probably find out it's one of his entourage who is the rights holder.

Would they not need to score first??!
