Takeaways who only take cash

The point others and myself are making is that just because certain businesses prefer to be paid in cash for their work doesn't make them tax dodgers. Why should I receive less for my work because someone wants to pay on a card that I then have to pay commission on?
You don't have to be worse off. You can add a CC surcharge as they do in many other countries. Taking a debit card can cost as little as 0.2%. Or you could accept a bank transfer into your company account.

The fact remains that the government loses £37,000,000,000 in unpaid taxes every year.

That's a lot of 0's..is that billion or trillion

Mone has been discussed and everyone is in agreement at the sheer fucking injustice of it all. This does not detract one iota from my point.

The fact you double downed with the rather laughable HMRC will be all.over them is rather amusing and a tad desperate.

I mean you can't walk down the street without a plumber, mechanic, window cleaner, delivery driver or chip shop owner being taken out by the dreaded HMRC.

Not paying your taxes is not stealing from the govt its stealing from the rest of us. Whether its a million quid or a tenner and its wrong.

End of.
...and how do you feel about the small businessman who files his/her own tax returns and claims back the tax on all manner of shit which is unrelated to their actual job?

Take a guess how I feel about it

Kinell.
:) it was sort of rhetorical, as I'd guessed that you feel the same as I do about it :)

Only mentioned it as I know a few people who do it and are brazen about doing it too and see nothing wrong in it. Sort of like, "Well, I'd be stupid not to". Winds me up no end.

They're the sort who moan about other people's shit stinking whilst being under the illusion that their shit smells of strawberries.

One of them tells people that he's "a businessman", I always correct him and tell people he's a fraudster.

I always find it strange that people defend the tax man. All the lies HMRC tell about how it would have funded a hospital wing. Bollocks.
Cut the waste and tax loopholes and you would be able to reduce the amount of tax paid or better still, keep it at the same level and use the excess for social welfare, housing, cheap travel etc.

The crown in Northenden knocked off a couple percent on your drinks if you paid cash, worked out about 12p off a pint of Guinness - was aiming to get 50 down me so I could've saved enough for a free one but it's closed now...

The figure if it is 37billion maybe more maybe less would still be there even if these magical loopholes were closed and waste was reduced, so either way those who break the law and dont pay the correct tax from taking cash are stealing from us. Not the tax man, not the govt in general, us.
Now if I was to grab a tenner out of your back pocket and you caught me as Shania Twain says that wouldn't impress you much.

This look over there someone else is doing something doesn't wash, its a lazy argument.

You get nabbed by the police speeding whilst having a dead body in your boot.......

Fuck me judge that Hamiton bloke does 200 mph and Fred West was a right murdering ****.

Good point sir on your way.

Im not sure it works that way.

:-)

If you're suggesting I'm defending HMRC, I'm not. What I'm defending is the rule of law and the implicit requirement that if you're a working member of a developed society you have to contribute to pay for that society. I'm not sure HMRC have ever told the poplulation what their taxes go on-that's the government's job. But even if it did say it would have funded a hospital, why is that bollocks, something pays for it and it's your/my taxes.

Yep, let's cut the waste absolutely. Loopholes? Which ones?

Whenever I see stuff like this I think back to this on twitter. I know its probably bollocks but still makes me laugh.

Used to know a VAT investigator. The tactic for Chinese restaurants was to go in with a small group, have enough of a bill to make it worth while not going through the books but not so much that it looks risky. Pay by cash get a receipt then go back and audit for the transaction several weeks later.
