Be weird if they give a peace prize to someone whose peace initiative strategy is to allow one side to batter the fck out of the other. Then tell the battered that they had better give up because it can only get worse. It equates to appeasement for one and zero tolerance/interest in the other.

FWIW if Trump contributes to a lasting peace deal then he should be in calculations in future years (depending on what else he does).

This is sadly, unquestionably true. And there were lots of inequities about the grammar school system but it did (in conjunction with free higher education) at least give smart, working class kids a chance to be socially mobile in a way that simply isn’t available today. Don’t think bringing them back (in a universal sense) is feasible but their widespread abolition has in many ways reduced social mobility and presumably has led to a significant increase in the percentage of kids being educated privately in the last half century.
