President Trump

I agree. You have to give him a lot of credit if he secures peace. You can see a lot of people clearly struggling to give him any praise for it though
Would you praise the mafia for running a protection racket?

"Please make it stop..."

"Only if you give me praise for making it stop..."

It's only happened now because Netanyahu pissed him off.

He funded the slaughter up until Naziyahoo got what he wanted.

He could have stopped it months ago. He is complicit up to his fat double chins.

This is true. While an end to the slaughter will be welcomed across the globe, he could’ve got on the blower to Netanyahu on day one of his presidency and told him to stop.
And the strategic gains Israel has made in the interim have been nugatory, and therefore the last eight months have been gratuitous.

I think, objectively, he deserves a level of credit, because it appears he’s had some influence on this turn of events, but any consideration of that praise being unequivocal, or the consideration of any awards, can only be founded upon a lasting settlement over which he’s materially influenced, not a ceasefire that hasn’t actually taken effect yet, as likely as it now appears.

I dont think he deserves any credit tbh. As @M18CTID said he is responsible for a minimum of 20'000 Palestinians slaughtered. He's mocked and ridiculed the place and behaved like a Palestinians life is worthless. Treated the guy who he supplies the weopens to like a king. He's absolutely no empathy or feelings for those murdered Gazans. Everything is about him.

There can not be peace there for another generation surely. Those people have been traumatised beyond our understanding.

Maybe a short term ceasefire will happen or even a rebuild but not longterm peace I fear because the crime on these families is horrific in scale. Should never have been allowed by the "super powers".

Don’t disagree with anything you’ve said there, other than your first sentence. It seems he’s definitely had an impact on this ending here and now, and I think that deserves a level of credit, balanced against all the other things about him which speak against him and his character. As much as Blair deserving credit for the Good Friday Agreement doesn’t mean he didn’t royally fuck up on Iraq.

Anything that will stop the suffering of innocent children deserves, as I say, a level of credit, however qualified and equivocal.

Sadly, the effect of trauma upon a people, carried out many, many years ago, has been all too evident over the last two years.
