Arsenal thread | 2025/26

Never mind Haaland scoring a PL penalty, never mind no City player at all scoring a penalty, we haven't even been awarded a single one this season. That model of breathtaking, attacking football Manchester United, meanwhile, were awarded three in their first 6 games.
And they haven't had Thomas Bramall refereeing them yet. Big wedge going on a rag penalty when he does.

I know. I say it every week. Yernited have had 3 I think.

I'm thinking of telling me OH to put a bet on that we won't get one all season in the PL!! Anything dodgy happens to one of our lads in the box and it's move on nothing to see here, no review, no slo mo replay, no desperation to award. Contrast to any other team, but particularly those wearing red cartel shirts. Tbh this season I've no idea if Dips or Arseanal have had them, ( oops just remembered that last minute Dips winner at Burnley) but I can guarantee by end of season they'll both have had at least 8, with feck all awarded against them.

Amazes me. Not. Every season.

I must admit I thought the same as you so I went back and checked the last 5 years. The truth is, we came out pretty well. They probably have a stat for it these days "xp" or something and ours was roughly what you'd expect. Oddly, united were about average.

I came to the conclusion that it's a question of when the penalties were awarded rather than how many. And because united and liverpool win more games by a single goal than we do, it becomes more significant in the scheme of things.

My instinct, though, is still the same as yours.

Arsenal got 2 last season, the joint lowest. City got 4. Liverpool got 9 (the highest).

Oh I like a statto, thanks for that.

I can count on the fingers of my left hand the number of times in Peps tenure where we have been awarded penalties where we are 0-0, or 1-1 to win; contrast to when we are winning eg 2-0, 3-0 is when we tend to get them the most.

The only one I can immediately remember that helped us win was v West Ham in the horrendous 2019 race v Dippers when Sergio converted for us to claim victory at 1-0 and thus the 3 points. There may have been others, but very few and far between.

And yet, and yet refs have no qualms about awarding opposition against us EVEN at The Etihad - step forward yetnittid/ Dips/ Spuds etc. Absolutely sucks and nobody will ever convince me that there isn't any corruption involved.

Pretty sure we are miles better this season than we were last. We had Saka, Gabriel and Havertz out for much of the 2nd half of the season, all replaced by dross. Arsenal have a significantly stronger squad now. City are better this season but so are Arsenal. I'd say as things stand Dippers are worse.

Maybe

And as it stands, you've kept falling short when it matters. You had enough ability to win it in the past few years, even if you're supposedly better now.

So we will see. Your manager seems to lose his head on the home straight and it rubs off on the players. If he can stay calm this season, you've a hell of a chance. Recent history tells us he can't.

Arsenal don’t need penalties, only a few corners. Rice or Saka into the mixer - chaos and shithousery ensues - goal, OTT celebrations, rinse and repeat.

We really need to re think our transfer strategy to compete with them and we won’t need penalties either - sign Michael Kayode from Brentford (a RIGHT BACK FFS) and hoy the ball onto Erling’s head (or any other tall fecker on our team) from vast distances. Banish the tippy tappy stuff to the dustbin of history. Kayode wouldn’t cost as much as Livramento so we could probably afford a few nice towels as well.

Give it a go Pep, you know it makes sense.

I like the idea very much. :-)

Someone on the football facts thread posted that since 2016/17 (I think) we've had more penalties than any other team in the Prem and by a distance.

Arsenal fans; the gift that just on (and on, and on, and on) giving.

Everybody can score more goals than Erling untill it actually comes to put the ball in the net! Then, Erl smashes all of them out of this world. The sheer disrespect towards him is just unreal. The sooner everyone in England accepts that Erling is just on a much much much much higher level than all the strikers playing in PL, the better it will be for their mental health and sanity!

Supposedly he's off to Bmth in Jan in a swap + cash deal involving Semenyo coming the other way. Semenyo is apparently a big Arsenal fan and his agent has started pushing for the move.
