Match discussion - Liverpool (A) - Sunday 12 Oct k.o. 16:45

Pundits on Sky absolutely devastated that City won. Saying Liverpool didn't deserve to lose until the host reminded them that was Liverpool's second shot on goal at the end and then they changed their tune.

Come on Sky, get some decent pundits on
They sounded like they'd lost a family member ....

More of a struggle than it should have been. Could have done with improving our goal difference. Certainly not a fluid performance from us, some poor crossing, poor passing and poor first touches. A bit slow with our play and movement.
They were poor, luckily they were offside at the end but it was a dreadful attempted clearance from Greenwood that led to the free kick.
Three points is the best we can say really, we kept going. Some people need shooting practice though.

Very fortunate the lineswoman was up to the job - awful from Layzel to play a terrible inside pass that was easy to read, then putting Alex in a poor position to just swipe at it.

Nothing against how well Laura has played in the last few games but this is why you bring a top international in, one who is a serial winner with Bayern - great assist for the winner and she also allows Yui to be more effective further up.

Jade Rose & Iman looking better with each game - I still think we have to find our best system particularly in midfield & also with Viv. I also think left back is an area they need to improve next.

Were City really that lucky? Didn't see the match, but I note eight shots on target, five off, one woodwork. Liverpool two shots on target — nothing else. Sounds pretty dominant to me, even richly deserved, even if the finishing leaves a lot to be desired.
Were we honestly that lucky?
I've just texted my ERO that 1-6 would have better fitted the stats. Liverpool are clearly one of those teams that just run around for 90 mins deny space and blocking as many shots as they can get in front of. We are also guilty of poor finishing - again. But for West Ham women the Dipperettes would be odds on for relegation.

The teams that give us more trouble than most are those that are scrapping away for WSL survival.

Can the player of the match award go to the lino? Great work in the final minute.

Probably ours was Beney just about - extra points for literally bleeding for the cause.

Dear Theresa Is there any chance of a left back for Christmas? An unequivocal first choice keeper wouldn't go amiss either...

Don't you think it's a mentality thing , ie last week, we need to be up for it , it's Arsenal. This week it's only bottom of the league (well next to bottom) Liverpool, so 3 points in the bag ?
To be fair, for the most part Liverpool defended well , with a back 5 and for most of the time , then another line of 5 in front of them. Also I didn't get why we kept putting high crosses in with the hight of the Liverpool defense ?
Needed low crosses to course problems.

Park wanted to leave, she said it herself. No point keeping a player that wants to go
This. I think people also forget she was out of contract next summer and if it was a choice of letting her leave for free or use her as levy to go get the Clinton deal done, it was the right choice. She was great for six months after Roord got injured but after that she didn’t really fit in the side.

To a certain extent you are probably right. They probably did think they would get the three points whatever. I personally think it is more poor decision making and slow play that causes us problems. That and our inability to keep shots down at times.
A new manager, a few new players and some injuries we are just finding out feet. Hopefully as the season progresses we will be more in tune with each other.

Yes, I like Clinton but I was unhappy at Park leaving.
She was the price to get the deal done - Jess is a good player but we saw a lot of her in midfield last year and arguably against the top teams we looked very poor in that area apart from Yui. Sometimes you have to look at the system. Clinton will have a big part to play this year as will Syd.

I realise that but would still have liked to see Park stay.

Yeah. She had a fantastic season last but one, but last season was a bit lacklustre. A new environment has clearly worked for her. She must be the only player in the WSL who has scored twice in the Rag net and redeemed herself today.
