West Mids Police have barred Macaabi fans from attending the European fixture. Not a surprise given the Macaabi Tel Aviv fans history of violence and havoc have at away fixtures thanks to their IDF Ultra's but loads of right wing commentators are framing it on X as anti Semitic and anti-Jewish rather than the Police not wanting the spend and the danger of Policing it all - everyone I have seen has probably never attended a football match.

What about British/Jewish Macaabi fans that were born and raised here?

Are Jewish Aston Villa fans allowed to attend?

This is not good.

If the police can police Villa/Birmingham games surely the can control this.

I think we can guess where the real threat is coming from

Its simple - there will be no away section and no away fans allowed - place of birth or where you live nor your religion is not a criteria to take into account according to the Police statement. Likewise, Aston Villa fans be they Jewish or Jedi as a religion are not barred. You are making something about religion when it is not though I will admit you are not alone

maybe West Mids Police don't want this in Birmingham

I think you have a habit of polluting this forum (particularly off-topic) with all sorts of nonsense. If you look closely as the prelude to it, there was a petition lead by the MP to ban them on political grounds and now all sorts of stereotypes are going to be made about the Birmingham region.

My bad.
I just read this off the bbc website story which an MP has tweeted…
“"Are we seriously saying that in modern Britain we cannot guarantee the safety of Jewish people on our streets and in our sports grounds? I'm not OK with that”

This was the reason for my post

I think it’s completely unnecessary and sends the wrong message. It appears that the fear is for the safety of the away fans.

What about other Jewish sports teams or Jewish fans who are based in the uk? Should they have to fear for their safety as well.

It’s the Isreal government doing harm, not the ordinary people. The level of hatred seems to be through the roof with some people

Does seem like an overreaction, although not without recent precedent - think both Ajax and Frankfurt fans have also been subject to similar bans recently. Think it’s shit though - blanket banning fans from games is unnecessary imo.
Weren’t they banned for hooliganism though?

From what I’ve read some of this teams fans (a minority) don’t have a great reputation, but this doesn’t seem to be about that. Seems more about they can’t guarantee there safety

I thought it was more to do with the trouble at their game at Ajax last season tbh?

'West Midlands Police have advised the SAG that they have public safety concerns outside the stadium bowl and the ability to deal with any potential protests on the night”

This is part of the statement I read. I’ve read this as concerns about external protests and the safety of fans.

Can see why the police think there is genuine potential for trouble, but as mentioned do think just outright banning away fans is a nonsense. To be fair to Villa though, it seems like it’s nothing to do with them.

From the snippets I can see, it’s the Maccabi Ultras that seem to be the concern.

As you say though, it seems to be a police decision around safety, rather than anything else.

Can we ban Galatasaray fans from our game? We could have five seats each, maybe six each if the new stand is open.

As for Villa v Maccabi; plenty of fans, ultras and otherwise, have cause trouble across Europe for 50 years, and very little action of this severity has been taken by the police.

The police probably trying to avoid the mass outrage of anti-Semitism that will be thrown at them, unfortunately the Israel lobby have already jumped the gun and Starmer has already been briefed.

Its not right, they're not being banned because of their own behaviour and that is the only reason to ban a set of away fans. I can understand why the police would want to take this decision, it's a brewing pot for trouble and they want to avoid it but the easy and potentially even sensible option isn't always the right one.

Old Firm fans were banned from away games the last few seasons. City and Millwall fans were banned as far back as 2000 from travelling.
Nothing to see here, move on!

PS sales of half n half scarves go through the roof outside Villa Park on the day of the game as UK born Maccabi fans go under cover on the night
