The FOC thread.

My best mate in the early 60's used to live in Kingsfield Drive, Didsbury just behind the old ABC studios, and they used to film Jimmy Clithero's show in his house.

Was Jimmy reincarnated as Jimmy Crankie?

Attended St Cath's Primary School and our Head at the time, Mr White, lived in Kingsfield Drive. As for the old ABC studios they recorded the first episode of Candid Camera their

I knew a mate's dad who worked on the bins in those days when I was a kid and he loved it. It was a really early start, I think he had to start about six or seven, but they used to work like the clappers and he could be home by 9-10. It was hard graft though, metal bins and people could throw everything in the one bin back then so they were really heavy. Out in all weathers too. I remember him being pissed off in later years as the council had brought some time and motion blokes in to monitor their work and they then had to stay at work longer. He was mid fifties then so he finished with ill health. Crackers really as they did the same amount of work but it had to be done in eight hours, instead of them running around like lunatics for the bonus of an early finish.

That must be the same clowns who decided to allocate post rounds at 4mph. Just measure the road distance, forget about the houses and carrying a heavy sack.

It's bizarre. The blokes were probably paid for an eight hour day but literally worked their bollocks off to get their round finished as early as possible. The job was done, everybody was happy. Some jealous fucker in the office who had to do 9-5 probably saw them leaving early and got the hump.

We used to cover the high points with chalk - you could then 'graunch' it onto the blackboard and it would stay there.

One teacher was probably only around 5ft 2in, so you could position it on the board just out of reach, before he arrived - cruel, but funny watching him in turmoil, deciding whether or not to ask a 13-year-old to fetch it down for him...
