VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Another shite additional to the abomination that is VAR, so along with all the rest of the stoppages we now have to put up with more. Just bin the thing. Football really is rubbish these days.

in your opinion

its still in reality as big as its ever been, highest average attendances year on year, highest viewing figures. VAR was apparently going to kill the game and everyone was going to boycott it ... still waiting.

Think I read somewhere its only for leagues and competitions without multiple Var camera's like in the PL so at least Arsenal cannot use it as another time wasting device :)-

I recently read viewing figures were down 10% last season on Sky with TNT dropping 17%. That’s neither here nor there though,I’m sure VAR appeals to the kids growing up. My 7 year old seems to like it. Every single person I know around my age hates it but still watch their own team play. I still watch every City game but not bothered about most others, once the spontaneity of celebrating a goal was no more the sport changed forever.

Football evolves and no one likes change especially FOC, I embraced VAR knowing full well the challenges and tidal wave of moaning whenever there’s a contentious decision or a cock up, it was never going to be flawless. I see the benefits in VAR, the overwhelming amount of goals that would have stood but never should have , the amount of clear penalties and red cards that would never have been given prior VAR shows that it’s needed - none of which gets any praise only the negatives get highlighted and that’s fair enough.

Aren't sky viewing figures down? As well as Serie A and Bundesliga figures plummeting?

Madness isnt it. Keep doing the same thing that fails. They will eventually bring out some tech to solve VAR mistakes haha

Just have the ref!
We have a ref, 2 linesman and a 4th official and they can't get it right. Until we get it like rugby league they are not accountable and nothing will change.

They have a captains challenge in rugby but the referees decision is rarely overruled.

Other sports are allowed to incorporate tech and change laws. Just football not allowed because it was all glorious before VAR and no one moaned and cried corruption after every match.

How many times has an incident like that happened compared to the number of errors that have resulted from VAR the penalty against Ireland for Portugal no slow motion freeze frame required it was clear that the ball hit his chest yet VAR didn’t recommend a review

It's exactly the same stupid argument that the law makers use for making over-complicated, almost impossible to enforce rules: "wouldn't you rather give the referee detailed instructions so that he gets the decision right every time?". It's a nonsense.

Having rules that try to make subjective decisions objective isn't worth the effort when the rules end up being too complicated for anybody to understand.

And getting "better" decisions with VAR isn't worth the trouble when it affects the game disproportionally. The game is a mess.

And it's a problem that won't be solved until the authorities realise you can't micro-manage the refereeing in this game.

Not this again. They still cry corruption. It's not croquet. The only question is whether it's worth the idiot new rules and interpretations and the disruption to the game. You think it is - I get it. The rest of humanity (at least the ones that count) think it isn't.

Tennis, Rugby ?? Course they do, and they also have controversy. But football fans live in a bubble and always play the victim.
Tennis! Line calls same as goal line tech that’s it what else? They don’t have VAU so don’t justify the use of VAR in football by using tennis FFS Rugby not interested so no idea
