Grooming gang scandal

There's been some impressive jail sentences handed out to some of the Rochdale paedos today.
35 years to the ringleader known as Boss Man,he is currently aged 65,so if he serves his full sentence he will be over 100 when he is released.
And the other guys involved also got 25/26/27 year sentences for multiple sexual offences.
The shortest sentence was 9 years for committing rape on a 13 year old child.
And not to pull any punches, every single one of them is either from Pakistan, or of Pakistani origin.
Some of the social services/police/ Asian community leaders who tried to turn a blind eye to what was going on should also be prosecuted for aiding and abetting crimes.

The wheels of justice dont half turn slowly if at all, enjoy your jail time.

Do you still get a birthday card from the King if you’re in nick? Maybe Boss Man could have it handed it to him upon release?

Im really hoping, that after any review, or whatever they call it, that any person involved , whether a social worker, policeman, politician, whomever, that turned a blind eye for whatever reason, are investigated and if needs be charged.

If for any reason anybody is found to have swept abuse under the carpet at the time that ultimately resulted in more kids being abused they should be charged and stuck in the slammer

Disgracefully short sentence. She’d barely be an adult by the time he gets out at full term, let alone a good behavior sentence!

Personal violence, especially of a sexual nature on a child, should be much, much harsher…and I can’t print what I’d do to him.

Nobody got nine years for rape based on what I’ve read. Someone did get 12 years for a single count of rape which still seems low, but could be explained because he pleaded guilty. The single count would make a big difference too, but it’s so out of kilter to the other rape sentences I can only assume he pleaded, or that he cooperated with GMP in some way.

I can only go by what was written.

If they had the goods on the guy, why even allow him to plead down to save his ass? She wasn’t that lucky!

I get it…courts are inundated, resources are limited, guilty pleas save time and money, etc, etc, etc…

Nonetheless, it is abhorrent to me that the worst amongst us can say “I’ll tell you all about it for a reduced sentence” and get it!

Society doesn’t deserve far too many of the people walking free.

Or, maybe some of us don’t deserve the society we have developed into and yet have to live in?!

The alternative to not giving credit for guilty pleas is wholly contrary to the public interest and would lead to the judicial system collapsing. And it’s not just about resources, it’s also about saving victims from testifying and reaching guilty verdicts more quickly which also saves them considerable anguish.

We live in a wholly imperfect world, but to not give people credit for pleading guilty would make it even more imperfect. It would mean everyone charged with an offence having a trial and would also mean some people who would otherwise admit their crimes by pleading guilty being acquitted and walking free.

The credit makes defendants evaluate their chances more diligently. If you are looking at 12 years for an offence, the evidence against you is strong, you’re in your late twenties and can get a third off that sum then you’ll seriously consider pleading, as four years off is a considerable sum.

If there’s no credit for pleading guilty, you’ll just say ‘fuck it’ I’ll take my chances. Not sure how that’s really helping anyone.

Makes perfect sense, but still pisses me off to know that the guilty get to play the system for a reduced sentence.

And one of the fuckers absconded before his trial and they haven’t a clue where he is, but are determined to find him. The world is a very big place so no doubt he’ll evade capture for the rest of his life. Grade a ****
If he’s in Pakistan he may be returned though it will take time. The Pak gov have been quite cooperative recently.

BBC reporting a couple of victims have resigned from grooming gang panel. One because a couple of proposed chairmen are a former police officer and a social worker, ie representing the two groups that prevented or obstructed earlier intervention.

Hello friend lol

Seriously, to your last point......

Could anyone who pleads Guilty be subject to the normal/usual sentencing rules and guidelines and then.... if they plead/pleaded (?) not guilty be subject to "additional time" which would be dependent on the lengths that you went to or the obvious (in the eyes of the judge) lies you told? Extend the sentence along the lines of which they reduce the sentence currently? Crude I know.

Just heard an interview (a fantastic one at that) on LBC with Nick Ferrari (not to everyone's taste - I know) where Ellie who resigned from the panel, gave her reasons for doing so.... gave an interesting insight as to why she and a colleague resigned. Most interestingly was that they felt they were being told what to think and say and to whom they could and could not speak to for help and support. Also it looked like it was going to be chaired by either a senior Police Officer or Social Worker.... two of the organisations that could have allegedly been heavily involved in any cover up and will or could continue to "lift the carpet"
