City fans more than anyone know what a top team is as we have witnessed this over the last 7/8 years. Top/great teams win major prizes. Is this City team at that level yet, probably not but nor are Arsenal. They are showing signs of it but they have a hell of a long way to go.

& Donnarumma won’t create as many chances as Ederson…

What a terrible discussion. All ifs and maybes. Yes we are reliant too much on Haaland but there’s no mention of the injury to Marmoush keeping him out of contention. I do worry about what these pundits actually watch when it comes to teams they don’t support, I think they spend too much time talking with each other than analysing the actual games.

His logic was without Haaland we would struggle for top 4. The fact that nobody has scored more than one goal other than him suggests we have relied greatly on his goals so far. Now if he was out, would we adapt, would we score goals. More than likely but Haaland is getting us over the line at the moment and there is no issue with that. We have turned things around, and without Rodri, Cherki, Ait Nouri, Marmoush. Goals need to be spread about and I think they will going forward.

I half get his point, but I also think he is wrong

Håland is in a rich vein of form, you play around a player like that until you need to do something else, so the stats will lean heavily toward that player. I think they are clutching at straws somewhat, let’s hope they don’t guess right though.

An interesting stat from 2003/04 when Arsenal last won the title. Henry scored 30, Pires 14 but then nobody else scored more than 4. We just need to find our Pires for this season it seems!

If we didn’t have Haaland we’d have someone else - we can afford the best

There is too much televised and printed and online media.
It has to be topped up on a daily basis.
Consequently it gets topped up with 90% shit, lies, unproven speculation and "banter" for clicks.

Obviously we’d adapt like we did before him, we’ve stopped playing out from the keeper since Ederson went so to think we wouldn’t play differently is mental. Last season we did it with Mcatee & got the results.

Like most TV pundits, his job is to elicit a reaction that leads to engagement with the audience whether that happens to be positive or negative. Having a go at Merson here is precisely the kind of reaction that Sky hopes for - it keeps the thoughts of its pundits at the forefront of social media with more and more people exposed to them.
Just ignore him rather than complaining and increasing the size of his online footprint.
The only footprint I'd like to see is my size 10s on his fuckin drug addled face! The guys had it in for City for years.

That's why we have a centre mid playing right back and went a season without a striker......
If we didn't have Haaland though I do think we would have scored goals differently. We got moaned at to not playing to his strengths, now he is scoring a crazy amount and we are relying on him. We will never win.

It's like saying Arsenal would be struggling to get top 4 without Gabriel. He's their threat from corners which they rely on heavily and their most in form centre back. Double whammy.

But no that would be a stupid case to make as this Haaland one is.

Think he’s a complete bell but don’t think he says a lot wrong on this. I’d say we’ve been really good for a half a game this season at Brentford. You could also include Wolves but even when they put it on us they had a good spell and some chances and look how bad they have been.

Of course any team would rely on Haaland but it’s hard to argue we’re too heavily reliant at the moment. The good thing is we’ve been on a great run of picking up results. What we also have to hope is that other players can start to step up and pick up some real form before Erling either gets injured or tales off a bit. There are certainly players that could do it. Foden being the most obvious as he’s playing quite well and history shows he will start scoring again. Marmoush could help chip in with goals but i don’t think he’d be particularly good at leading the line if he’s needed to. Some promising signs from Savinho too and Cherki could certainly add some brilliance to the side.

Yesterday’s 2nd half was drab and people will argue we just played the game out. That’s how it panned out but only because they missed an absolute sitter at 2-0. Could have ended up a needlessly nervy end to that game. Where we really should have been going getting a 3rd goal to kill the game off convincingly.

We know we’re in transition and the real positive is the points we’ve managed to pick up since the Brighton loss. Can understand pundits watching us though and thinking we currently don’t look like a top side.

It's actually funny that he is winding people up. How on earth can you let a complete imbecile like Merson get to you...

He can't even speak properly ffs.

Merson is a top beer drinker, and was an alcoholic. Has he started drinking gain, the Worzel c*nt?!

This nonsense of being overly reliant on haaland is the new narrative the pathetic media are trying to spread, well last time i checked haaland didnt pick the ball up from his own six yard box drive forward beat 11 players and bang one in. Yes of course he puts the ball in the net but it has to get to him to do that, take last nights goal, that relied on a decent ball to lewis who put it on a plate for haaland but the build up and the play for the goal doesnt suit the narrative so we ignore that bit. As i said yesterday when you go to a restaurant you dont give all the credit to the waiter who hands you your food you give it to the chefs and right now not enough credit is being given to the 'chefs' at city.
