Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

A lot of understandable over reaction on here, and some comments that are way over the top.

Good start then we let them take control. Shite that their goal comes from a refereeing mistake.

We lacked physicality and being a young team we lack enough ‘personality’ to dig in at the moment when the going is tough.

We will get better but we always need to have Rodri or Nico G holding in the tougher away fixtures.

Despite being ‘under par’ we are still unlucky not to come away with a point.

Keep the faith blues.
Exactly this. Savinho's 2nd shot extremely unlucky not to go in. They were really putting their heads and bodies on the line.
Only gripe perhaps Marmoush and Cherki should have been on earlier

Hoping for a top4 finish and Pep farewell.
We’re all disappointed in the result and the performance but fuck me that comment about hoping for a Pep farewell is truly shocking.
Instead how about Pep and the team are going through a tough spell but we’ll support you through this for all the memories you’ve given us.

What was the refereeing mistake? I watched it but could have missed the error as I was listening to Never Mind the Bollocks...

Why were we unlucky?

I can't take losing we have no right to win.
The thing that worries me is almost every other team seems fitter, faster and more fight.
I thought bringing in the two dipper coaches would see a more fitter, faster City.
I wont lie in missed about 20 minutes as I had a kip !. First time ive ever done that watching City. But there was nothing to excite me. We are slow and boring.

Perhaps the treble season was the end for me.

When you play Stones in that role you will never play with either pace or urgency. He is so ponderous and devoid of creative thought it totally stifles our game. As for continuing to shoehorn Gvardiol into the side as a full-back borders on the absurd.

Need to face facts our moment in history is behind us it lasted a bit longer than most such periods. But we are left with a team that compete we have decent enough players will win most games still be in European competitions every season and will win cups every 2 or 3 seasons
We need to recognise this and adopt a more realistic view

Lot of candidates for that award tbf but yes he was very poor. Should’ve been hooked long before that. Way too soft for the Premier league
Not saying he was good, but at least he went forward and crossed. Everyone else kept playing it back and the midfield was so bad. I think it’s time for the bench for Reijnders, Foden and Bernardo, the weakest midfield we’ve had in along time.

I actually thought we knocked it about wonderfully for the first two minutes.

Last 3 starts with Stones in the league: 3 City losses (Spurs, Brighton, Villa). Our record with him in the starting XI since the start of last season is appalling: under 1,5 ppg. But it's Pep's fault to play him mostly in midfield today. Think that was a mistake. We were a mess in midfield in the first half.

Imo, Pep should have played the same defence (Dias and Gvardiol at CB, Nunes and O'Reilly at FB) and go for other decisions at DM (say, Bernie and Kova). Reijnders lacks defensive qualities. Playing him deep creates rather than solves problems.

Foden is a bit lightweight for a midfield role away from home when we lack a proper DM in the team. He's more of a second striker than a pure midfielder.

Our campaign depends on Rodri. He's irreplaceable right now, although Gonzalez is very good.

If Rodri stays fit, we can compete. Without him we'll be inconsistent.

Same issues from the current squad arising again. Bad decision makers and if Haaland isn't scoring, no one is...
Said before we are becoming FC Haaland. If the big man doesen't score we don't win. If he gets injured for a long period we are totally fucked. Aim this season has to be top four and 3 or 4 QUALITY signings next summer to start the climb back to the top.

It’s the same old problem, too much tinkering has broken the rhythm. Not sure why Doku, O’Riley, and Nico didn’t start as they looked perfectly fine when they came on. Winning through tinkering at Villarreal doesn’t mean it will work in the Premier League where players have no time to think before even touching the ball as shown in our awful first half.
