Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Not sure Villa were very good. But I suppose after a defeat a lot of people are upset and can make emotional posts.
My position is that its important to try to make constructive critical comments after a poor result. To that end this game yet again demonstrated a lack of firepower from our wide men and attacking midfielders.
Finally I am not sure having to come on when we win should be a prerequisite for posting after a defeat. Personally I only come on after a match when its convenient to do so which is probably one in every er games or so. There are some people who get very upset at any criticism of the playets and management and thats allowed too.
Fair comment mate. I was generalising about some of the undesirables but there are of course many people who want their tuppence worth after a defeat who make good points and who don’t necessarily feel the need to post after a routine victory.

I get that there’s an element of man bites dog to our defeats and so traffic will increase but the contrast in size between winning post match threads and losing ones is ridiculous

Whilst stats can sometimes be interesting I think it’s a stretch to absolve Phil from a poor performance overall because he had a few moments where he played a key pass.
He was poor, nothing wrong with thinking that because it’s true. Shame as he had looked more like himself recently.

I wasn't singling Phil out but he's what, 25 now? He's been playing at the top.level for a few seasons now. He was player of the year a couple of seasons ago. He has to start bossing games, be the main man. In his defence he isn't playing alongside Rodri, De Bruyne and Gundogan anymore, which makes a huge difference.

Disappointing result but I think there were a few clues from Tuesday night's performance. It might also be an idea to bench Reijnders for a bit now Kovacic is back but what do I know. Onwards and upwards

People joke about us being a one man team but there's some truth to it.
I shudder to think where we'd be without Haaland
I was arguing with someone here about Arsenal and I said they weren't much more complete than us but now I'm not so sure anymore.

They had 3 players who could have arguably been man of the match. We didn’t have a single player, less the keeper, that did their job to an acceptable standard

Oliver today showed the clear bias officials show when officiating us. Last weekend he didn’t fall for players trying to con free kicks for either team and tried to keep his cards in his pocket for the Ryanair derby. Today he gave them everything for them feigning fouls and showed us 4 cards in 16 fouls, half of which were not even fouls after issuing just 2 in 22 fouls last week.

I just don’t understand Josko at LB when O’Reilly has been excellent there.
Gvardiol does not look comfortable there.
Nico and Doku always seem to cause defences problems and Gvardiol’s distribution sucks.

A lot of understandable over reaction on here, and some comments that are way over the top.

Good start then we let them take control. Shite that their goal comes from a refereeing mistake.

We lacked physicality and being a young team we lack enough ‘personality’ to dig in at the moment when the going is tough.

We will get better but we always need to have Rodri or Nico G holding in the tougher away fixtures.

Despite being ‘under par’ we are still unlucky not to come away with a point.

Keep the faith blues.
We shouldn’t be lacking personality though…
Stones, Dias, Bernado, Foden, Haaland all treble winners and even the younger amongst them are seasoned professionals

Lacking physicality a major problem though. As is lacking any creativity, energy and visible motivation

Most frustrating thing of all today was it was a chance to make a statement and fire a warning shot at Arsenal. They must be laughing tonight, will win the league at a canter at this rate

And don’t get me started on us being in the same points as the rags, way too depressing

Pep looked for a solution without a proper holding midfielder it didn’t work, just one of those games early on in the season against a decent organised side and it didn’t come off. We’ll still be there or thereabouts come April when it matters.

Just as shit as last year.

No fight in this team. Bunch of fucking wet blankets in midfield.

Our wingers are dross. Savinho should never step foot on a pitch for us again and only giving Cherki 15 minutes is laughable.

Pep fucked us again with his shocking team selection.

Haaland: if you’re going to have 3 touches a game you have to score your 1 v 1s. And not turn your back when defending shots.

Fucking fuming.

Level on points with United. 6 off Arsenal. Gonna be a long fucking season.

Fuck off, Pep, again. ‘It’s gonna be different this season’… bullshit. Just as fucking toothless as last year.

Pathetic.
