Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

oh look, spurs just scored from a corner, Arsenal win again from a set piece, Dippers score plenty from them, why is no one inside our club concerned that ours are awful and we are missing a huge opportunity to get anything from them.
I get more concerned about conceding from one of our set pieces than actually scoring from one! Haha!

Because it’s all become shrug of the shoulders stuff and a feel of a club now lacking ..

The forward players today just had no idea, poor decisions, couldn't cross or pass to each other, we could still be playing now, and wouldn't have scored.

Reijnders is not, and never will be Rodri, in fact I'm getting less and less convinced by him being at our level at all, he started OK, but he needs taking out of the firing line for the moment.

He missed at least one easy ball to roll erl in. I thought he was ok but still way off his best
He wasn’t at his best but much better than Bernie and Reijnders who were terrible. Looked much better when Nico Gonzalez came on. We can’t win any matches with no CDM. I was in the ground and most City fans predicted we would be over-run in midfield. And that’s what happened. A baffling team selection.

A bit rich, coming from you. The amount of DMs I've had about you down the years is crazy.

By the way; if I was being a smart arse, I'd point out that it's "you're", not "your".
You couldn't resist mentioning it though.
In any case Seems you can't close you account on here yourself even if you wanted too, which in itself is strange.

It’s bizarrely annoying. The floated out swinging corner in particular

I think Villa played really well and hats off to them for a really good and determined display. However I think Foden was really poor today. First half he completely hid from the game and though he did get better second half, his quality when he did get in good positions was so so poor.

Prime example is right at the end when the ball broke surprisingly to him and he was in a fantastic position. He blindly played a nothing ball into the box and blew out final good chance to get something from the game. I’d expect Foden there to get his head up and pick the right ball in but he just aimlessly played it. He had to do better in those positions and that today was not good at all.
And he had a simple through ball to Haaland cut out soon afterwards.

are you saying we cant see whats obvious?

both nico and kova on the bench so were able to play some part, again i will say it again no excuse not to have a cdm on the pitch
we have too many square pegs in round holes
not saying we would of won but having players in their right positions don't half help.
pep is untouchtable but we have the right to comment
I’m saying that what happens on the pitch isnt the full picture. They weren’t fit enough or they would’ve played.

Nobody talks about square pegs in round holes when Pep transforms players and positions with his magic wand yet when we lose the forum is awash with people making the most blindingly obvious points and insisting on a formulaic approach that won nobody nothing ever.

On the train back and the Villa fans say they were poor today. Both sides were sluggish and poor. It was a very poor game with lots of misplaced passes by both teams. We probably should have got a point though.

I've said in an earlier post that I don't think Villa were anything special .... they worked hard, defended better than we did, and put themselves about a bit, but they were hardly that threatening or unbeatable .

Your picking on Foden because you can say that for half they teams! Foden did try and make chance but when a team like Villa today defend so well players have bad games! Back the players look at what he tried to do all you doing is looking at what he isn’t doing or seems to be not doing!
I’m probably picking on Foden cause I expect so much from him. I think that chance right at the end just drove me over the edge.

And Palace had no shots on target, you're right it is title winning form, and we better be careful not to allow them to get too far ahead or they'll do what the dippers did last season and just coast to the title because there is no pressure on them.
Looks like it is theirs to lose. We’re fighting for top 4. Despite a lot of obvious criticism today, thought we were good for a point but for some bad luck witt try h our final ball and their fluke goal

Doku played his best football on a City shirt for 3/4 weeks when let roam into central areas causing havoc....

He hasn't been seen in that position since.

It was only a few weeks ago Ljinders was getting praised for the form of Doku and having some similarities to Saido Mane at Liverpool. Now Doku looks back to playing like Aaron Lennon.

Just when you thought Hincliffe could not get more annoying... he has been full anti-City today, (not that we have been good) but back to the days where the commentary has been as if we are an overseas team
I couldn't agree more - Sky were desperate for us to lose - doesn't excuse the performance, though - that was inept - really surprised at the selection - Bobb is offering very little - Sav and Jeremy's final balls were woeful. That said, the ref gave us nothing - how does he blow for half time, when he's just awarded us a free kick - why did VAR not review the penalty we weren't given. We deserved to lose vs Spurs - criminal to lose to that Villa team.
