Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don't expect him to criticise individuals but, the bollocks that we played well is just disingenuous.

There are those in the media both traditional and social that would love to see cracks so they could pile on.

We all know we didnt play well but he won't give people ammunition to have a go at the team.

Would rather important matches weren't his testing ground. Not that it's much of a test when he flops so regularly.
Yeah but what aren’t important matches and isn’t every game a testing ground for the young players? Wingers are just frustrating there hasn’t been a single one at city that hasn’t divided opinion.

Villa played many squad players in Europe. We were without a proper DM which is an absolutely crucial position in a Pep team.

I'm not saying that was the best first XI or tactics. For me Pep shouldn't have tinkerer with the defence and try to make room for Stones. If he wanted Stones at DM, play him there and move Fone on the wing instead of Bobb/Savinho. Without Rodri or a mini Rodri like Gonzalez, we suck in CM. So, I wasn't happy with Pep's ideas today, but mistakes happen.

What I'm pointing out are the unrealistic expectations that City should be as good as Arsenal right after the summer. We'll, we can't be ad good as them without Rodri. He's a phenomenal player, one of the best DMs in history. When/if he regains form, we'll compete for the title. It's not too late. Nobody has expected Liverpool to lose 4 consecutive games in the league. Arsenal may draw 4 games in a row at some point, it's far from impossible.
Fair enough, I just couldn’t believe that starting eleven. especially when we have played right into their hands on our previous two visit and only managed a draw the visit before. Plus they are inflatable Euro Cup waving cunts who beat up kids at the League Cup,final pre Covid so I am very annoyed at Pep.

A "long season" ahead indeed, and not in a good way

Do you think?

We went 9 unbeaten when others didn't think we would. There are positive signs with this team despite the setback today.

Unlikely to win the league given the players we've lost and the injuries but we're a team on the rebuild and we'll have good results as well as the bad.

True - I'd bin both ours off - can trace our drop off back to us shoehorning them into a total football system. Ok - the aging process may well have hit us, but I'd have replaced like with like.
Does Savinho divide opinion? I'm betting there's a fair consensus leaning one way.

I respect your opinion but we have historically forged players into winners. Kompany, Zabba, Silva, Aguero to name a few came to City without having honours previously .
We're going to get the odd defeat at the moment we are nowhere near the finished article but we're on the upward trajectory again and just need to be patient. the league is as strong as its been in my opinion. Players need to step up to the mark though in terms of goals, it's a huge concern the lack of goals spread throughout the team
Appreciate that none of those were serial winners at their old club, but they were all brought in during completely different circumstances.

We'd never won a league title when those 4 were signed, so the chances are you're looking for different attributes. For example, Kompany and Zabba were clearly seen as natural leaders, whilst Silva and Aguero showed almost instant quality, which we'd never seen.

I get that were in transition, but I'm not convinced the players we've brought will be good enough, or have the mentality to play at the top level.

Luckily it's a poor league this season and I still think we'll finish in the top 3, so hopefully we start to see the fruits next season.

It was a false economy refusing to stump up the fee needed to sign him.

Bellingham is just what we need and what we’ve needed for a good couple of years now, he’d be perfect for us

They refused to sign for a supposed CHEATING CLUB with 115 charges hanging over them!

You may not like it.. but until that is cleared we're not getting top players to commit long term.

It's not about money!

We are on the same points as the rags, who we have been saying arw shit and clueless etc, I feel sorry for the fans who made the effort to go to Villa Park today

Agreed. They approach the rags and dips for the proportion of pillocks who support them.

Harsh to blame the drop off on them. All players divide opinion until they deliver consistently. Some never do, let’s hope both our wingers come good.

This is what we are looking at with the quality of the wingers now.

Sterling 225 games in Prem for us including as a sub- 91 goals

Mahrez - 145 games - 43 goals

Sane 90 games - 25 goals

Doku/savinho/bobb combined

127 games - 8 goals

Unless that changes then we will have more of these games!

Haaland has one off day and we don’t score!

It’s always about the money. Players, or more importantly players agents, don’t give a fuck about football politics. The only way the charges enter into the equation is if Khaldoon doesn’t have “the irrefutable body of evidence” against the charges that he claims to have and is cutting our cloth accordingly

The most coveted player in the world committed long term. So did the best keeper.
