Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

That's pretty damning.

Not sure anything will change on that front any time soon either.

Foden isn't scoring much anymore and we've lost KDB's and Gundogans goals too.
Yep.

This was our side today other than Donna and Haaland. 3 goals between them in 9 games.

As someone else alluded too. We have probably been over performing due to Haaland.

Bernado - 0 goals this season (4 in last 42)

Foden - 1 this season.

Dias - 0 this season (and none in his last 3 seasons)
Stones - 0 this season
Gvardiol - 0 this season
Bobb - 0 this season (only 1 in 25 games in his career)
Savinho 0 this season. (1 in 35 )
Nunes - 1 this season. (Only 2 in 33 in total)
Reijnders - 1 this season.

Spot on.

The commitment to block every shot by the Villa team stood out against a City team that just was not bothered
Silva just didn't try to block or defend all game and what was our midfield setup, I think the butter and soft if you ask me.

Poor all round, Pep has got to change the wingers' system because both fall into the traps that the other team sets
and it's too easy to defend because our wingers are dog shit, Savinho played nearly all the game somehow ?
i dont get what Pep sees in him and 95% of the city fans can not be wrong.

Poor showing and changes are needed if we are to stay in the title race
Interesting.

The lack of commitment from our better players comes from the starting line up I reckon.

I've never associated a Pep team with wingers, it was always ball playing midfielders who could fill in anywhere.

Now we are playing with out and out wide men that aren't very good. This leaves our midfield overrun, our defence under pressure and an attack out numbered.

Whatever anyone thought Savinho would become, he hasn't!

Bobb is nowhere near a starter in a tough game.

Nunes gets by against fodder at full back, that's it.

If they all left I would only be mildly concerned about Bobb, even though there is no guarantee he will make it with us.

Got home at 6pm.
Load of fucking shit.
Where to begin...oh I know. What about that shit house **** Savio? Not 1 person will ever convince me he is anything but a bang average footballer who will NEVER be what we need.
Fuck me . From Mahrez ,Sane and Sterling to Bobb ,Savio and Doku.. Utter garbage recruitment. Bobb. Needs to stop living off that 1 goal at Newcastle but he has had a broken leg I agree
Pep..set us up to fail from the moment he had a brain fart with selecting Josko at left back instead of an in form Nico Reilly.
Playing Stones in midfield.
Playing Rjeinders in CDM. Lets not dress it up.He has been bang average for us but I will give him time.
Bernardo against there huge strong midfielders. Simply baffling.
Why no Kova in the middle.
Play Nico G from the start for 60 rather than bringimg him on. Even Rico would gave been a better option today
Villa were not all that. We just didn't have the guile to score.
Cherki. Needs to be on that pitch from minute 1 as does Marmoush moving forward.
Spurs offered 70million pounds for Savio a few months ago. LET THAT SINK IN.
Shit performance. Top away day out.

That's not his say or job. We pay people vast sums of money to make those decisions and they've made some shockers. And the man at the top of the coaching and scouting tree isn't exactly covering himself in glory.

I don't care if I get pelters for this, because I'm convinced events are proving me right, but Pep's last contract extension was one too many. Whatever magic he's brought over the eight seasons to 2023/24 has seemingly gone.

I know why you don’t like Pep :)

Oh well on to the next game. And we are not even out of October. Let’s see what happens after Xmas.

Pep has sanctioned players for a less than a pound of their target weight
Funny that he does that, yet it's completely fine for Savinho to stand up near the corner flag watching Bernie chase down three villa players for the ball for the best part of 20 seconds...

I'd much rather a fat fuck that's willing to work than a skinny useless **** that can't be arsed.

This is what we are looking at with the quality of the wingers now.

Sterling 225 games in Prem for us including as a sub- 91 goals

Mahrez - 145 games - 43 goals

Sane 90 games - 25 goals

Doku/savinho/bobb combined

127 games - 8 goals

Unless that changes then we will have more of these games!

Haaland has one off day and we don’t score!
I’ve accepted that we’ll never see these kind of wingers again.

There are players that we could’ve got who know where the goals are. They might not be the fanciest names but they know how to get g/a. Gakpo, Bowen, Lookman.

But unfortunately the club continues down this path of project players.

The moment the team was announced and we saw the midfield and wing options, it was obvious we were going to lose. How can Pep not see that that and is Pep 2 just a nodding guy now? Thought he would challenge boss Pep like Arteta did and debate the team selections if required?
Sadly this is true. Most people predicted what would happen when they saw the team. Have we ever won a match with no DM playing? Bernie is a legend but he has become the new Gundo. Surely he must come from the bench these days
True - I'd bin both ours off - can trace our drop off back to us shoehorning them into a total football system. Ok - the aging process may well have hit us, but I'd have replaced like with like.
Does Savinho divide opinion? I'm betting there's a fair consensus leaning one way.
Savinho rarely crosses to a City shirt. Haaland made some great runs in the first half and, despite being under no pressure, Savinho fluffed his cross every time. Doku was much better when he came on.

Onana got MOTM
Won 6/7 ground duels
3 tackles
4 shots blocked

The perfect kind of player we need in games like this. I wish we could’ve got him. He was the only player outside of Rice and Bruno G that would bring steel to our midfield.

And yours is just super duper
Haha! No need to take it too seriously our kid, just pointing out that most bot accounts are usually lots of numbers in the name. As you were talking about bots I thought it was apt, but never mind. My amazing sense of humour isn’t for everyone.

Not surprising really, we've been shit but just grinding out results.

That today was more of the same shite.

Emery has Peps number, that again today was down to Pep and a complete bullshit line up.
Not sure about that,

We haven't won a game we didn't deserve to win.

Admittedly, we have been shit in the 3 games lost though.

Depressing reading.

Said it when he was at Everton

I've never associated a Pep team with wingers, it was always ball playing midfielders who could fill in anywhere

That’s just nonsense to be honest, Peps first titles in England came from Sane and Sterling pinned out wide, pushing the opposition to one side of the pitch and then pinging the ball to the opposite wing.

His Bayern side was Robben, Ribery and Coman winning 1v1s and getting in behind to square across the box.

David Villa and Pedro were scoring 20-30 per season each as wingers under Pep and that team trademark goal was the out to in run and xavi or iniesta playing through balls between fullbacks and CB.

Goals from wide players has always been integral to Pep’s teams.

Not judging at all here - as Villa Park is as shite as the Etihad to get home from - but I was a little surpised that at the final whistle, the majority of our fans headed to the door, leaving Pep and the boys to applaud an almost half empty away end. I know it was shite from the 10th min onwards, but I always belive that they you acknowledge the players, come win, draw or lose. As I said, not judging anyone....
The trains were in total chaos all day. Many arrived very late and had to leave early. Villa Park is not fit for purpose and the area is like a shanty town. Personally I’m never going back there. Just a totally shite away trip all round.

Well there’s the answer, looking at this. Of course there’s also injuries, players ageing, etc which compound it, but it seems our major issue is having useless wingers.

How can a club seemingly so well run, and diligent not see these stats? Why the fuck didn’t we sell Savinho to Spurs? Why not loan Bobb?

It’s so glaring, we should be all over Semenyo in January, and meantime starting with Cherki and Marmoush every game.
Semenyo on the left and Jarred Bowen on the right would do the trick.
