I think he can still play the inverted role if alongside a designated defensive midfielder, but otherwise against any decent outfit it’s a tall order.Standing by it. Can't cover the ground any more. Can only play a regular CB role at this point I think, well poor today.

It looks like unsurprisingly the injuries have taken their toll. He still looks every bit the classy player he always was but there’s just a real lack of mobility these days. In a team that lacks mobility, even from those at 100% fitness, it’s a problem.

This season, our league record with Stones in the first XI is terrible: 1 win (Wolves) and 3 losses: that's relegation stuff. Since the sample is too small, it would be a crude generalisation to claim he isn't good enough anymore. But whether he makes us better in the PL is questionable.
Our record with him in the last 10 starts in the league (since August 2024) is 6 losses and 4 wins. That's 1,2 points per game or 45 pts over 38 games. Anyone claiming he makes us better is still living in 2023.

I sont like the inverted Stones role. Granted it was necessary in light of the midfield starters. But he doesn't offer a cutting edge on the ball.Can't cover the ground any more. Can only play a regular CB role at this point I think, well poor today.
Should not be starting any games for city now. Too old & slow in a league with fast powerful younger players

Got to think that as a team there is a lack of talking - without Rodri on the pitch - because when John was ambling forward he was not aware several times that he was about to be tackled. When I played it was a given that your teammates would tell you - in fact many times I was told I was too gobby but they always appreciated the nod that a man was on etc.

Shouldn’t get an extension and should never start. One if the reasons we concede goals + he will get injured and come back to hinder the progress of Khusanov. No reason for him to start. He can sit on the bench next to Ake

A top player should be aware what's happening around him. Stones isn't a novice in the PL, he should know that he hasn't much time on the ball.

Blooming heck I was brought up to believe that a football team consisted of ELEVEN players on the pitch not ONE against ELEVEN!!
Football is a TEAM effort not just one person. John Stones is still a great player. Don’t just take my word for it read what Pep and Bernardo Silva have to say as well as various commentators.
John Stones the reason for us losing. Beggars belief. If only my natural reticence would let me insult you I would!!!!!!!!!! :-) ;-)
