26 | Savinho - 2025/26

When I was about 35 I got a text on a Friday night after about 6 pints and I stupidly agreed to play a match the following day despite not having played for a year or two.

After 5 mins I realised I'd made a big mistake.

That's exactly how I felt it looked for Savinho today - totally out of his depth. For the first time I actually felt sorry for him. He needs some time out of the team to rebuild his game.

Feel a bit sorry for the lad, tried to gee the crowd up after one run, can see that he is struggling with himself too.

A couple of chances that fell to Reijnders if I'm not mistaken.

Of course he needs to improve but he has some talent. I think if we're patient with him, we'll see he can contribute and remains a players worth keeping in the squad.

He wouldn't make my best 11 at present but he's young and lets see in a year or two.
Wouldnt make my best 22

I thought that

Gets away with it when we are 3-1 up, but a game where its still level or getting beat he will get pelters.
He did it a few games ago and the lad next to me shouted back "I'll start cheering if you beat the first man", and it was one of his better games. Seems to get more toxic around him by the week. Just get your head down and win back people through your game. Football fans are fickle, but waving your hands at people after you've won another corner when you should have done more ain't going to win people over.

It's never gonna work out for him here, is it?

Still befuddled as to why we turned 70m down for him after paying 40 a year before. He may have a very high ceiling, but he needs a lot of work and is far from a sure thing.

Welcome to the madness of player ratings.
Savinho got given 7.1, so higher than all other starters and subs bar Haaland and O'Reilly, (and Nico and Doku, but they were 7.2, so pretty much the same as Sav)
Cherki got 6.7....
Imagine rating Savinho's day as significantly better than Cherki and Nunes and about the same as Gonzalez.
This is a rating from SofaScore, a site with 30m monthly active users, not from Savinho's mother as you might have thought.

He's 21, bit early to say it's never going to work out for him. Nunes, Stones even Gundogan, Rodri and Mahrez all managed to turn around harder situations. Not at his best today that's for sure and does seem to have lost a lot of confidence. Still had the odd moment and nice play to almost get an assist for Marmoush. Needs to be able to play a squad role and grow into being a starter at 23/24 which isn't wildly off track.

Ironically today proved you're never likely to see Cherki hugging the right touchline so Sav is still probably first choice RW for the foreseeable.

Not a good cameo but hardly the end of the world. Just give the lad some fucking time, we'll see him improve. I'd wager that lots of the people who have decided his career here is over already, also told us Nunes should never step foot on the pitch for us again, or the same with doku, or told us we'd be better off without Haaland.
