Huntingdon Train Incident - Reports of multiple stabbings

Social media has led to a desire for people to need to know everything instantly and react to it too.

Hopefully this will make some people realise and perhaps not open Twitter and wait a bit. I doubt it though!

Sounds like he'd already attacked someone in the early hours of Saturday too.

The police say that Anthony Williams, 32, is also being charged with an additional count of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article in relation to an incident on London's DLR network in the early hours of Saturday.

It is understood that a victim suffered facial injuries after being attacked with a knife at Pontoon Dock station on London's DLR network at 00:46.

To its far extent, maybe so.

But there is a whole swathe of middle ground inbetween that however, and some fairly intelligent and generally balanced people did indeed jump to the same conclusion, and/or believe the initial claims.

Being completely honest, I include myself in that. I didn't say anything of the sort, not out of any real intellect, more just not wanting to feel distasteful or maybe some gut empathy. But I admit it, I mostly expected the early claims to turn out true at some point, and for the information when released to back that. As much as I did hold my nerve and suggest waiting, and I respect the process and a sequence, a big part of me did default to what is unfortunately too a commonplace occurance to feel like an obvious go-to.

There will be others, and rather than rubbing it in their faces and them in turn being defensive about it, there is no harm in acknowledging it, and the context we are living in.

It may be the only way we as a society incrementally learn how to deal with unfolding news, because this division and appettite to use/misuse any significant event to further reinforce competing stances and use them for political gain isn't going away any time soon.
I think there's a big difference between thinking something might be a terrorist attack and actually spreading that info - or misinfo - across social media. I'm sure plenty of us thought that the incident at the Liverpool title parade bore the hallmarks of a terrorist attack but the vast majority of those who thought it might be one are also sensible enough not to go mouthing off all over social media ahead of the facts coming out.

Anthony Williams, 32, is appearing at Peterborough Magistrates' Court.

He has been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm and one count of possession of a bladed article following a stabbing attack on a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.

Williams has come into the dock in a grey sweatshirt and trousers.

There are people on this forum who post stuff which is genuinely like that though... ha!

You know satire really works, when it is on some level believable!

I knew it was was a parody, but more because I had just minutes earlier read a previous post of theirs, rather than its OTT nature.

Which should have been more than enough, but the fact it wasn't is a bit telling in itself.

It's actually quite worrying. I thought it was obvious, especially when I put the bit about his mum.
I don't do any social media other than BM so perhaps I am the naive one as I can't imagine anyone would post something like that and people believe it to be true.
X and the rest have seriously fucked things up.

"Agitated"?

LOL!! The comment was tongue-in-cheek, but a riposte to the type of minds that "want their country back"! I guess you're one of them!

At least I know now.
Sigh. Given my family's history of emigrating to this country, I'd probably be one of the first to be deported should mass deporations arrive.

By all means carry on.

It's probably the main reason why I came off X last year. I couldn't be doing with all the bullshit being spouted around the time of the riots. The mental gymnastics from some when it turned out the killer wasn't an asylum seeker who had come off a boat was off the scale. That and I was also fed up of arguing with opposition football fans. None of these were people that I was ever likely to meet so you get to the stage where you think what's the point. And that's assuming they were all people of course as I'm guessing a fair few were bots.

15 months on and I have to say that I don't miss X one bit. It's also freed up a fair bit of spare time so a win win all round

It’s 100x worse than however you imagine it to be nowadays

there will be so many GBN contributors, Daily Mail commentators and all of Reform who won't care and will just bang the racist drum. The information released won't deter them and I am certain some of them will just flip to skin colour anyway. As you say there are people fighting for their lives but that won't cross the minds of those fighting for clicks.
There was a lady on LBC this morning who phoned up to complain about her husband. Said he’s an out-and-out racist who, when he heard of the incident, had a smile on his face when he blamed migrants. When it came out that he was British, he then moved to the perpetrator being black, and smiled again.

There are people in this great land that don’t really care about people being hurt, as long as they can use it for their own gain.

Whenever an incident of major national impact occurs the discussion programmes that fill our media come up with the most absurd topics for discussion. Today's prize goes to ' Should we have police presence on every train'. I will leave you all to work out the logistics on this one.

I expect this argument was run by the same people who this time last week/month/year were telling us all that trains should be automated, guards are paid too much and how dare they ask for more…

The ‘debate’ industry in this country has a lot to answer for

(Sorry to have to quote X)

"We need a substantial increase in stop and search. Those objecting based on concerns about racial disproportionality must explain why they think the Huntingdon perpetrators should not have been stopped and searched if encountered."

How stupid is that? Stop and search someone who's wielding a knife? Or just any black person boarding a train?

Just any black person boarding a train will do for the likes of him

I see/hear this Philp guy a lot. Hard to tell if he’s stupid or just pretends to be
